That's it from our side. The thrilling encounter between the two teams from down under has come to an end. This is Utsav Chandak, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Karthik Raj & the scorer for the fixture, Dushyant Madhukar Kumar.
Curtis Heaphy (Player of the Match):"Awesome to get a win and to score runs after coming into the side is nice as well. First two games, we won the toss and chose to field first. Looking back, we should have probably done different. (Batting with Tom Bruce) When he is at the other end, it is easier for me. So, thankful for that. We need a few results to go on our side. We have a job to do Thursday as well. Hopefully we can do that."
Curtis Heaphy has been named as the 'Player of the Match'.
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
8:15 AM IST, 10:45 PM Local Time: Central Stags have registered their first victory, on the back of exceptional fielding, incredible spin bowling and powerful finish with the bat.
Central Stags won the toss and decided to bat first. A cautious start from Stags in the first 4 overs. Will Young played his shots and kept Stags in the hunt. One wicket led to 3, as wickets fell like nine pins. The top order had gone back to the dugout and the runs had dried up.
This was followed by a massive 113 run partnership between the captain Tom Bruce and the GSL debutant Curtis Heaphy. Both the batters settled in and then played their shots, scoring runs against both fast bowlers and spinners. Tom Bruce scored 62 off 38 and Curtis Heaphy went back not out at 50 off 38.
Matthew Forde walked out after the 4th wicket, and scored 2 sixes and a brace to finish things off, taking the score to 167/4 in 20 overs.
Coming out to chase 168, Hurricanes were off to a slow start. Runs were difficult to come by and the spinners were getting turn and grip. To make things tougher, the scoreboard pressure got to the batters of Hobart and one batter followed the other.
Spinners from Central Stags controlled the middle overs and boundaries had soaked up completely. Mohammad Nabi was one of the only two players who looked threatening and he single handedly controlled the momentum of the game. He scored 43 off 25 balls , including a hattrick of sixes. Fabian Allen, on the other end, scored 36 runs not out off 16 balls, but couldn't take the team over the line. Ajaz Patel was the pick of the bowlers who gave away just 18 runs in his 4 overs and took 2 wickets.
The fielding from Central Stags was exceptional, as they took some wonderful catches and saved a lot of runs through boundary saves. At the end of the contest, Hobart Hurricanes fell short by 16 runs and Central Stags have managed to win their first game of the season.
