Gulbadin Naib (Dubai Capitals Captain): "We did well with the ball, the bowlers gave their 100%. The wicket was not easy to bat on, but credit goes to Guyana and specially to the partnership between Moeen and Rutherford. We did not have that and how Kaleem bowled was excellent. It was a small total but we made a few mistakes and we need to improve.
In our meetings, we spoke about the wicket, we knew there would be dew and it would stay low but credit to Guyana for how they played today. Everyday is a new day, and everyone has the potential to succeed. We will focus on giving our 100% and improving. We were in the game today but we need to improve.
Sana bowled well and credit goes to him to give us that start. I have options in bowling, and everyone gave their 100% but it was difficult for the batters of both sides."
Imran Tahir (Player of the Match & Guyana Amazon Warriors Captain): "I did mention before that every game is a challenge and we have put that away mentally. We wanted to bat first and that's what sports is all about, it's about taking risks. It was not easy to bowl second, with the grip reducing but we knew if we had 130-140 on the board we could win. On a pitch like that, we need more batters to take the game deep and we need to improve there.
When it comes to run-scoring, this was a challenging pitch and if I was a batter, I would want to spend more time in the middle. The games are close here and my message is simple that we need to give our best. We have a good power-hitting unit with Hettie, Romario and others.
The celebration is purely for my son, to keep him happy and it is for the people who love cricket and support us. It was another day and another opportunity for me to repay the people's faith in me in leading the Guyana side. I am grateful for the opportunity and the management who have been very helpful."
Player of the Match: Imran Tahir
Moeen Ali: "It is an amazing bowling performance from everyone, I thought we were 15 runs short but Guyana have defended such totals before, so I was confident. We were losing wicket, and when they bowled straight it was difficult but the approach was according to the pitch situation.
It's always nice to bowl here, and as long as the ball is in good shape and there's spin, it's fun to bowl. This is one of the best places to play and the crowd here loves their team. When they come out, they make some noise.
Imran Tahir is excellent, to look after himself and all credit to him for the way he plays. In tough situations where we have got our backs against the wall, it's nice to have points on the board."
8:14 AM IST, 10:44 PM Local Time | A field day for the bowlers out there as Guyana Amazon Warriors defend 138 and defeat Dubai Capitals by 57 runs to win this contest!
Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first! After the top order crumbled, it was Guyana's middle order led by crucial knocks from Moeen Ali (40) and Sherfane Rutherford (33) ensured Guyana had something to defend with 138/7 at the end of their 20 overs.
Kaleem Sana was the destructor-in-chief for Dubai Capitals with the figures of 4/31 from his 4 overs!
Come the chase, there was nothing much to write about as it was disaster city from the get go for Dubai Capitals. The pitch was acting funny and Dwaine Pretorius opened the floodgates with the wicket of Mustafa in the 3rd over and Romario Shepherd introduced himself to GSL with two wickets in two balls of the 5th over to dismiss Atal and Naib.
Moeen Ali got the big wicket of Shakib Al Hasan and then skipper Imran Tahir took it all upon himself to pick up 4/12 in 3.4 overs to lead his team to an emphatic victory! Gudakesh Motie contributed with a double strike and ensured Dubai Capitals were dismissed for their lowest total in franchies history!
Niroshan Dickwella tried his best with 26 runs but kept losing partners at the other end to have any affect on the outcome of the match.
A big win for Guyana Amazon Warriors and Dubai Capitals will be licking their wounds. They need to go back and iron out the many flaws in their batting that were exposed today by a Tahir-led potent bowling unit!
