This is it for the second fixture of the Global Super League between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Rangpur Riders. This is Utsav Chandak, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Karthik Raj and the scorer/analyst of the fixture Ashok Dayma. Stay tuned with CREX for more cricketing action.
Nurul Hasan (Rangpur Riders Captain): "The boys did really well and we played as a team. We believed that the match could be turned around at any time. In this sort of a wicket, we believed we could turn it around. Our bowlers did well.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have a good squad, so happy to win but we have a long way to go. (On his cameo in the first innings) T20 is a momentum game, we got the momentum from there. Mayers (Kyle Mayers) and Ifti (Iftikhar Ahmed) bhai did well after that."
Imran Tahir (Guyana Amazon Warriors Captain): "We dropped some catches which didn't help. But to be honest, was happy with how we bowled especially considering this is the first match. We fought with the bat. We were winning for most of the match but somewhere we lost the way.
There are a lot of experienced players in the team, so they know what they are doing. We lost wickets in quick succession. It was always better to bat second with the due. End of the day, they did little bit better than us and they deserved to win. Ideally, you want to win the first game in such a short competition but we will look to come back."
Khaled Ahmed (Player of the Match): "I just tried to bowl in the good areas. I was expensive in the first over but my captain said I can comeback well. He believed in me and I did well. Hetmyer's wicket was my favourite as he hit me once in the BPL. We are trying to play to our potential. Everyone in the meeting said we should go for a win."
Khaled Ahmed has been named as the 'Player of the Match'.
8:45 AM IST, 11:15 PM Local Time: Rangpur Riders beat Guyana Amazon Warriors in a low scoring thriller by 8 runs. Guyana Amazon Warriors had the game in their hands and then gave it away.
Rangpur Riders won the toss and chose to bat first. The openers were off to a slow but steady start, putting up a score of 49 runs. The middle overs completely belonged to the GAW spinners who dried up the runs and took wickets in bunches. Imran Tahir in his four overs, gave away only 21 runs for 2 wickets. Gudakesh Motie, in his 4 overs, gave away 32 runs for his 2 wickets.
The last 5 overs of the innings, caused a shift in the game. The power hitters of Rangpur - Iftikhar Ahmed and Kyle Mayers powered the Riders to a score of 162/5. Both the batters going back not out. Iftikhar scored an unbeaten 34 off 21 and Kyle Mayers scored an unbeaten 44 of 31 balls.
Coming out to chase 163, GAW batters looked under control as they were off to a great powerplay, with Johnson Charles powering his way through the run chase. Moeen Ali walked out at 3, complementing Charles and making light work of the run chase. After the first half of the chase, wickets started to fall in regular intervals, but it didn't stem the flow of runs.
38 runs were required off the last 6 overs, looking completely in favor of the home team, but captain Nurul Hasan had other plans. Khaled Ahmed, alongside Tabraiz Shamsi, didn't just stop the run flow, but also inflicted a collapse in the Warriors' batting lineup, eventually making them fall short by 8 runs. Tabraiz Shamsi ended with a spell of 4 overs 24 runs and 2 wickets, whereas, Khaled Ahmed ended with a spell of 4 overs 36 runs and 4 wickets.
Looking at the points table, defending champions Rangpur Riders have opened their account with a win off the very first match, and are currently placed second to Dubai Capitals who are ahead on Net Run Rate.
