So, that brings a wrap to our coverage of the opening game of the Global Super League between the Dubai Capitals and the Central Stags.

This is me, Hiren Kumar, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saptak and our scorer/analyst Raju Khariya.

Cheers, and good night! Stay tuned to CREX for more cricketing action from around the globe.

Gulbadin Naib (Dubai Capitals Captain): "Yeah, first win is always important. The first 6 overs are crucial. Shakib is one of the experienced guy and he knows his game very well. We have done some small mistakes and we will look to solve that in the next game. The wicket was going to be slower and we were confident in defending the total. Some of our spinners are still on the way and will be available in the next game. Thank you."
Tom Bruce (Central Stags Captain): "I think we were a bit rusty with the ball and in the field. We gave a few runs extra. Now we have to comeback better in the next game.

There were a few dropped catches that cost us. We were rusty I said. Also we haven't played together for a while. It is a very different condition than what we are used to. But that's not an excuse. We have to comeback as a group.

We were wrong today. But we have to learn and comeback against Guyana tomorrow at their home ground."
Shakib Al Hasan (Player of the Match): "Yeah, it is good to be part of the Capitals. One player had pulled out and I had to fill the shoes. I know these conditions very well. The CPL experience has helped me a lot. Very happy with the win and my contribution.

Both are important (batting and bowling). We were losing wickets and it was important to build up a partnership. In Guyana, 160+ is always a good score on this pitch. Winning the first game always helps. Thank you."
Player of the Match: Shakib Al Hasan
11:12 PM IST and 1:42 PM Local Time | Dubai Capitals have started their GSL journey with a victory. They have outplayed the Central Stags by 22 runs and this has been a clinical performance from the Dubai-based franchise.

Dubai Capitals came to bat first after losing the toss. Niroshan Dickwella and Sediqullah Atal started the innings with a few boundaries but Dickwella got out for 15 and they lost two wickets in quick time as Gulbadin Naib and Kadeem Alleyne got out for cheap scores. Atal hit his shots and was going well in his innings but Foxcroft knocked him over on his personal score of 41 off 25 balls.

Shakib Al Hasan then took the onus. Shakib played very calculative. He got support from debutant Jesse Bootan who played a good cameo of 20 runs off 11 balls. Shakib played nicely throughout the death overs and finished with an unbeaten 58 off 37 balls.

Angus Schaw took 3 wickets for the Central Stags. Blair Tickner took 2 wickets and Dean Foxcroft took a wicket.

Shakib Al Hasan didn't stop after having a good day with the bat. He bowled fantastically with the ball and his spin was too good for the Stags batters to counter. He came to bowl his first over in the 5th over of the innings and removed Will Young and Dean Foxcroft. It was a double wicket maiden over. The other opener Dane Cleaver hung around for long but only to score 21 off 18 balls before Aryaman Varma dismissed him.

Tom Bruce, the skipper tried to take the game deep but he was having huge trouble in rotating the strike. Meanwhile Shakib came back for his second spell in the middle overs and removed two mainstays of the Stags middle order Josh Clarkson and William Clark. After that it was impossible for Bruce to take his side home. He struggled for 39 balls in the middle and scored only 34 runs and Drakes got him. At the end, Central Stags finished with 143/8 on the board, 22 runs short of the Capitals' score.

Shakib Al Hasan was the star of the game. Khuzaima Bin Tanvir took 2 wickets in the final over. Dominic Drakes and Aryaman Varma took a wicket each.
