The league stage of TNPL 2025 is done and dusted, with the Chepauk Super Gillies, iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Dindigul Dragons, and Trichy Grand Cholas securing the top four spots on the points table, respectively. The Chepauk Super Gillies and iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans will clash in Qualifier 1 of the tournament, while the Dindigul Dragons and Trichy Grand Cholas will go head-to-head in the Eliminator.

That’s a wrap for today’s coverage. For now, it’s me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of co-commentators Aditya Agarwal, Karthik Raj, and scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal. Good night!
J Suresh Kumar (Trichy Grand Cholas Captain): " A splendid innings by Sanjay Yadav today. The wicket was a bit tricky and we did well to restrict them to 150. We want to be attacking in the powerplay going forward."
R Sanjay Yadav (POTM) : " I am happy with my performance. Actually the wicket was quite slow, so I wanted to settle first in the middle. A big thanks to the ground staff to prepare the ground on time for us. My wife has also come along to support me for the match."
Player of the Match: R Sanjay Yadav
Ravichandran Ashwin (Dindigul Dragons Captain): "I think our fielding got us down today. He (Vimal Khumar) played really well today and got us to a good score. Pretty happy for TGC as well, they outplayed us today."
11:02 PM IST, Local Time: Trichy Grand Cholas win by 4 wickets in a last-over thriller and secure their place in the playoffs. Things looked bleak for the Cholas in the first half of the chase, but a valuable partnership between Sanjay Yadav and Jagatheesan Kousik turned the game in their favor. On the other hand, the Salem Spartans, whose fate hinged on the result of this match, have been ruled out of the tournament.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Dindigul Dragons lost three wickets in quick succession and were reeling at 35/3 in the 7th over. Shivam Singh took his time to settle on the crease but perished for 40-ball 37 runs when it came time to switch gears, leaving his side tottering at 77/4 in the 14th over. However, Vimal Khumar and Hunny Saini scored rapidly and provided the necessary acceleration in the innings. The duo added over 50 runs for the 5th wicket, with Saini departing for an 11-ball 21-run cameo. Vimal remained unbeaten till the end and delivered a well-composed 55 off 37 balls, propelling the Dragons to 150/6 in 20 overs.

V Athisayaraj Davidson and P Saravana Kumar bagged a couple of wickets each for Trichy Grand Cholas, while K Easwaran and N Selva Kumaran celebrated a solitary wicket.

In reply, Waseem Ahmed (11) and Jayaraman Suresh Kumar (9) added 19 runs in the first two overs of the chase. However, R Ashwin quickly brought on the spinners, and the plan worked perfectly for the Dragons. Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Sasidharan Ravichandran made life difficult for the batters, removing four wickets in quick succession and leaving the Trichy Grand Cholas reeling at 24/4 in the fifth over.

Jagatheesan Kousik and Sanjay Yadav paired up in the middle and steadied the sinking ship. The duo took their time to settle and switched gears as the innings progressed. The pair added over 90 runs for the 5th wicket and kept things back on track for Trichy Grand Cholas. Kousik fell 8 runs short of his fifty at the crucial juncture of the game, with Ganeshan Periyaswamy providing a much-needed breakthrough for the Dragons.

R Rajkumar departed for 10 runs, but Jafar Jamal’s six off the last ball of the penultimate over brought the equation down to just 4 runs needed from the final over. Sanjay then stayed unbeaten on 55 and guided his side across the line.

Ganeshan Periyaswamy and Sasidharan Ravichandran bagged a couple of wickets for the Dragons. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravichandran Ashwin contributed one wicket apiece.
