A humdinger in Salem is what we craved for. Despite a rain-curtailed start, the two sides delivered Absolute Cinema! That's it from the coverage. This is your guy, Arijit Kundu signing off on behalf of co-commentators Akshay Bhide and scorer Paras Yadav. Goodbye folks!
NS Chaturved (Siecham Madurai Panthers Captain): "At the start, we got regular wickets which set the tone. We knew we can make an impact. But an unbelievable performance from us. Seriously, excellent work from our team. We thought 170 was par score, but this win has to be team performance."
Surya Anand: "It's a hard-fought win, a crucial win for us. I would like credit the win to the team captain, the coaches for all their hard work behind the scenes. Thank you."
Player of the Match: Surya Anand
11:44 PM IST and Local Time: A Hat-trick to win the game for the side. Nothing better that Surya Anand could have asked for when his team was on the brink of defeat. Madurai Panthers needed eleven runs from the last couple of overs when Surya got the better of on-song Sonu Yadav on the first ball itself. With the stocks tilted in favour of the chasing side, he went on to clear the clutter with a hat-trick in the over as the Panthers collapsed drastically.
Earlier, the Royal Kings failed to get a good start, losing three wickets inside the powerplay. However, Arun Karthik played a skipper's knock to counterpunch the opponents. He brought in the drives, sweeps, and his slogs to rack up a quick fifty. While he scored the bulk of runs at the start, Rithik Easwaran's 25 and Sonu Yadav's 32 steered the Royal Kings at the bring of a victory when Gurjapneet Singh, the innings' best bowler until the 17th over, spilled twelve runs. This is when four wickets fell in the penultimate over as Surya Anand became the second cricketer to bag a hat-trick in TMPL 2025.
Earlier, the Royal Kings made the perfect start after choosing to bowl. Emmanuel Cherian got rid of R Ram Arvindh early, and Bhasker Rocky turned up the heat with two wickets in one over, reducing the Panthers to 35/3 by the end of the powerplay.
Anirudh and Atheeq stepped up under pressure, stitching a crucial 61-run stand to steady things. Just as the Panthers looked to shift gears, Sonu Yadav struck twice in the 15th over, removing Ganesh and Atheeq to halt the momentum. But Gurjapneet Singh and PK Saravanan had other ideas. They teed off in the death overs, smashing 43 quick runs between them. Gurjapneetās 24 off 8 and Saravananās unbeaten 16 off 10 helped the Panthers post a competitive 168/9. With the ball, Sonu Yadav led the charge for the Royal Kings with 3/41. Bhasker Rocky kept it tight with 2/24, while Cherian and Yudheeswaran picked up a wicket each.
Stay tuned for the post-match sayings...
Arun Karthik (Nellai Royal Kings Captain): "The shot selection could have been better. We let the game slip away during the slog overs phase. Hats off to them, the way they batted and bounced back, it is outstanding. It is all about the mindset, Nalla Mindset. Any team can win if they can win these kinda performances."
