11:28 PM IST, Local Time: That's it. Trichy Grand Cholas register their first win of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025. They beat Lyca Kovai Kings by 14 runs to get on board. The Kings continue to struggle in this year's competition as they have lost four games in a row and remain winless.
Lyca Kovai Kings got off to a disastrous start while chasing 169. They lost CH Jitendra Kumar (7), Suresh Lokeshwar (11) and skipper Shahrukh Khan (2) inside the first six overs. They were reeling at 36/3 at the end of the powerplay, before Sachin B and impact sub C Andre Siddarth led the recovery work.
Sachin and Siddarth put a solid 67-run stand for the fourth wicket before Sachin holed out in the deep on 38. Siddarth departed on 39 in the 16th over. It led to a collapse as the lower-middle order batters failed to step up. They lost regular wickets and finished their innings on 154/9 to lose the game by 14 runs.
V Athiyasaraj Davidson bowled beautifully for the Grand Cholas and registered figures of 3/26 in his four overs. R Rajkumar (2/32), K Easwaran (1/19) and P Saravan Kumar (1/40) entered the wickets column as they defended the total successfully to grab their first win of this year's competition.
Earlier, Trichy Grand Cholas were inserted into bat. HI Waseem Ahmed scored a solid 32 at the top of the order. S Sujay (25) and R Sanjay Yadav (27) stitched a good partnership after Jagatheesan Kousik (5) and Jafer Jamal (6) failed to make an impact with the bat. R Rajkumar at six came out all guns blazing and gave his side a perfect finish.
Rajkumar hit some lusty blows and raced to his fifty in just 18 balls. He hit five fours and as many maximums to remain unbeaten on 58 off 24 to power the Grand Cholas to 168/5. Jhathavedh Subramanyan (2/32), Ramalingam Rohit (1/38), N Kabilan (1/40) and P Bhuvaneswaran (1/10) were among the wickets for the Kings.
