Thatโs all from this contest, folks! Nellai Royal Kings kickstart their TNPL 2025 journey with a 5-wicket victory over Trichy Grand Cholas. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. For now, itโs me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya and scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. CHEERS!
Arun Karthik (Nellai Royal Kings Captain): "The wicket slowed down in the end. Run-making was tougher. NS Harish played well. Very good batting performance from us.
We had a month-long camp. A few players have come up in the ranks. Youngsters are fearless. I saw it in them. They didn't overthink. They kept faith in themselves and executed the plans. It was about not bowling too many extras, bowling tight overs and sticking to the plans. In the chase, we also had a couple of good overs. NS Harish and Santhosh batted well in that tough period.
Sonu Yadav was brilliant. He was not a certain starter tonight. He had an injury. Credit to him for the recovery in time. Credit to TNCA physios as well. Kudos to them as they managed to get Sonu Yadav fit just in time."
NS Harish (POTM): "Great feeling. There was some help from the wicket. Varied my pace. I didn't plan to take on any bowlers. I just tried to take it deep."
Player of the Match: NS Harish
Time for the post-match presentation......
J Suresh Kumar (Trichy Grand Cholas Captain): "Not an easy wicket to bat on. Playing cross-batted shots wasn't easy. Holding back Mukilesh and Sanjay Yadav was because of the way we started. We needed a partnership. We thought of sending Jafar Jamal, who has that firepower like Shahrukh Khan. We aren't taking back that plan. We will trust the process and continue ahead in the tournament."
10:43 PM IST, Local Time: Sonu Yadav finishes things in style and Nellai Royal Kings win by 5 wickets to start their TNPL 2025 campaign on a high note.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Trichy Grand Cholas were restricted to 157/8 in their 20 overs. They lost both openers โ Sujay Sivasankaran (12) and Jayaraman Suresh Kumar (9) โ cheaply inside the powerplay. Waseem Ahmed (41) and Jafar Jamal (39) steadied the innings with a valuable partnership in the middle overs but failed to accelerate when it mattered most and were eventually dismissed. R Rajkumar provided much-needed impetus at the death with an unbeaten 30 off just 16 balls. However, a hat-trick from Sonu Yadav in the final over prevented Trichy from crossing the 160-run mark. In reply, Arun Karthik (41) and D Santhosh Kumar (45) provided a rollicking start to Nellai Royal Kings, scoring briskly from the outset. The duo stitched together a 66-run opening stand, but both fell just short of their half-centuries. Trichy Grand Cholas kept things tight in the middle overs, picking up wickets at regular intervals. U Mukilesh was the standout performer, finishing with figures of 3 for 23 in his four overs. However, NS Harish held his nerve under pressure, guiding his side home with a match-winning 35* off just 22 balls, helping his side cross the line with 4 balls to spare.
