That’s all from the opening clash of TNPL 2025! A complete team performance from the Dindigul Dragons, who excelled in all three departments to register a convincing win. On the other hand, it was a forgettable outing for the Lyca Kovai Kings, particularly in the field where they were far from their best.

Join us again tomorrow at 6:15 PM as the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans take on the Chepauk Super Gillies in what promises to be another exciting encounter. For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Arijit Kundu who, along with scorer Paras Yadav brought all the updates of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE👋
Player of the Match: Shivam Singh
Shahrukh Khan at post-match presentation says that it's a new time and the pitch was slow. He says that B Sachin is a heavy run-getter and can expect more. He also says that there is nothing to think much with one loss.
10:25 PM IST & Local Time: That’s the end of the contest! In a repeat of last year’s final, the defending champions Dindigul Dragons have outclassed the Lyca Kovai Kings, sealing a dominant 7-wicket win with 16 balls to spare. A clinical performance from the Dragons as they start their TNPL 2025 campaign in style.

Earlier in the day, Ravi Ashwin won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Lyca Kovai Kings had a shaky beginning, losing both openers for low scores. Ashwin made full use of his experience, rotating his bowlers smartly and keeping things tight in the Powerplay. It was a cautious start from the Kings under pressure.

Sachin B and C Andre Siddarth put together a much-needed partnership for the third wicket, helping the Lyca Kovai Kings recover after the early blows. The duo focused on consolidation, but their inability to rotate strike consistently allowed the Dindigul Dragons to stay on top.

Sachin B went on to notch up the first half-century of this TNPL season before being dismissed for 51 by Ravi Ashwin. Shahrukh Khan added some late fireworks with a brisk 25 off just 14 balls. However, a disciplined bowling effort at the death saw the Dragons keep things tight and restrict the Kings to 149/8 in their 20 overs. Two wickets apiece for Sandeep Warrier (2/27), Ravi Ashwin (2/33) and Ganeshan Periyaswamy (2/30).

In reply, Ravi Ashwin chose to lead from the front and opened the innings alongside Shivam Singh. The duo looked to capitalize on the fielding restrictions and played with positive intent early on. However, their opening stand of 25 was broken when Ramalingam Rohit got the breakthrough, sending Ashwin back for 15.

Shivam Singh anchored the innings beautifully, once again playing a match-winning knock in the TNPL. Vimal Khumar looked in good touch and was settling in nicely, but his innings was cut short against the run of play as Shahrukh Khan struck to dismiss him for 28. Hunny Saini was brought in as the Impact Sub and made his intentions clear from the outset, swinging from the very first ball. However, his cameo was brief, as Shahrukh removed him in the same over for a quickfire 12 off just 4 deliveries.

Shivam Singh was the star of the night, staying unbeaten and finishing the game in style with back-to-back sixes. He remained not out on a brilliant 82 off just 50 balls, guiding the Dindigul Dragons to a commanding win. With this thumping victory over the Lyca Kovai Kings, the Dragons have made a strong statement to kick off their TNPL 2025 campaign!
