CSK saved their best for the last but it was a bit too late as despite a 83-run win, they finish at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their 16-year-long rich history. MS Dhoni didn't give a clear answer on his future and left fans wondering whether he will return as a player next year or not. Gujarat Titans had the chance to seal a top-two spot on the points table but they failed yet again at home.
For now, this is Ajay Pal Singh signing off on behalf of my colleagues Ninaad Dixit, Akshay Bhide, Pritam Dey, Paras Yadav, Manish Bishnoi and Aman. To follow more cricketing action from around the world, switch tabs. Goodbye!!
Dewald Brevis (POTM): "Yeah, I am happy. I am really enjoying the game and I am having fun out there. It is a big thing for me, just to be myself. Basically like the kid out there, enjoying the moment.
I really just enjoyed there. I kept telling my mind that it is cool out there and not hot. So, when I went out there and I just wanted to do what the team wanted me to do and I am glad I can contribute.
The big thing for me is Test cricket. Red ball cricket is the pinnacle and it is about keep playing and doing what is working for you.
[On comparisons with AB de Villiers] It is always been a privilege and so it was never a burned but I always wanted the people to know me as Dewald Brevis, I just want to be my own player but it is always an honour to be compared to him."
Player of the Match: Dewald Brevis
MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings Captain): "It's good. I won't say today was housefull but decent number. It is a big stadium. Good to finish on a good note. This was one of the perfect performances from the bowling, batting and fielding department. This was one game where the catching was also good.
[On him coming back] It depends. I would say the same thing. I have 4-5 months to decide. There is no hurry to decide what needs to be done. Every year it's 50% more effort to keep the body fit. It is the top level of cricket. If cricketers start retiring because of performances, few of them will retire at 22. What is important to see is how much hunger and fitness you have and how much can you contribute to the team, whether the team needs you. I have enough time. I'll go back to Ranchi, haven't been home for a long time. Enjoy a few bike rides. Couple of months then I will decide.
I am not saying I am done and I am not saying I am coming back at the same time. I have the luxury of timing.
[On young players in CSK] When we started the season, we played first 4 home games out of 6 in Chennai. We won tosses and chased. There was a fair amount of dew but I felt the wicket was better to bat first somehow. 2nd innings when we batted, we were under a bit of pressure and the confidence got sucked away from the batter and from that point it became difficult for us to come back so I was more worried about the batting department because at the end of the day you have to score runs. Now looking at how everybody's contributing, we look like a side that can put runs on the board and then maneuvering with the bowlers gets slightly ease. Yes there are a few holes that we'd like to fill but one of the most important things was when Rutu comes back next season at least we are able to give him a team where he just needs to fit in 1 in the playing XI. He doesn't have to worry about too many things.
[On Vaibhav Suryavanshi touching his feet] You definitely feel old. I forgot I have Andre [Siddarth] in the team. I'll sit on the last seat on the right hand side and he sits next to me. We were just having a chat and I asked him his age. He said exactly 25 years younger than you. That was the first time I realized I am seriously old."
