Everything was going right for Axar Patel and Delhi Capitals until the first four league matches for DC. Once that game against Mumbai Indians was bottled, we saw a bit of ugly urgency in the Capitals' camp. Not sure what triggered them. A lot of changes in the batting order. Obviously, a few niggles have had their say, but in total it was a season that would haunt them in the future. They still had the chance to move forward in the tournament, but succumbed under pressure, and with MI turning up with their best game at Wankhede, it was a bit too much for DC to handle. Of course, Axar Patel's sickness didn't help their cause!
MI, on the other hand, after another slow start, picked themselves up and nailed a perfect game to be the fourth team qualifying for the playoffs.
Tomorrow, GT take on LSG in Ahmedabad, with the former wanting to confirm their finish in the top two and the latter having only pride to play for.
This is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator, Pritam Dey and scorers/analysts Manish Bishnoi and Paras Yadav and statistician Aman. We will meet again. Until then, it is cheers!
Suryakumar Yadav (Player of the Match): "I think it's been 13 games now and my wife told me a sweet story today. She said, 'you have got all the awards except the Player of the Match'. So I think, this award is really special today. The team needed it so it was very important for me to play till the end.
(About cutting a cake) Absolutely. I mean, she waits for such moments. So, we will celebrate it for sure once we go back to the hotel.
I think it was really important for a single batter to bat till the end. We knew that there was one over of 15-20 runs somewhere. I just wanted to bat till the end and the way Naman came in and shared his energy, it was a wonderful partnership in the end.
Absolutely. Good five days ahead for us."
Player of the Match: Suryakumar Yadav
Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians Captain): "Absolutely! I can throw the ball whenever I want to (speaking of Santner and Bumrah). They bring such control and perfection, which makes my job very easy.
We initially thought 180 would be good, but it (pitch) did not look like that. We would've been very happy to get 160, but the way Naman and Surya finished it, especially Naman, to come out and just hit on a difficult track was outstanding."
There is a heavy rain coming down as Hardik Pandya walks to give his interview.
Most Dot balls in the Match: Mitchell Santner (16 dots)
