Not so often do you call a game that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) involved a dead rubber, but fate has its say on the five-time champions, with them shifting their base to Delhi for their penultimate league match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and their final home match which is going to be on a neutral venue.

Chennai Super Kings will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the 62nd match of the season on Tuesday (May 20). This is a clash of two franchises that played in the inaugural final, but both are languishing at the bottom of the points table now.

CSK and RR have 6 points each, with the former having the worst net run rate of the two, but have a game in hand. The winner of this match is more likely not to hold the wooden spoon.

The IPL officials didn't pick Chepauk as one of the venues for the remainder of the season during the league's resumption, citing a possibility of heavy rainfall in the extreme South of India. However, that isn't a great deal of disadvantage for the Super Kings this season, as they have lost five matches at home.

Devon Conway, Dewald Brevis, Matheesha Pathirana, and Noor Ahmad are the confirmed overseas availabilities for CSK, while Rachin Ravindra's availability is still uncertain, and he is least likely to return for the last bit of the competition. England all-rounders - Sam Curran and Jamie Overton - have decided not to return to India, with England's international summer beginning soon. There were reports earlier saying that Nathan Ellis won't be returning for the final two matches for the Yellow Army, but it is not confirmed as of now.

The MS Dhoni-led side won a thriller by two wickets at Eden Gardens when it took the field last time in this edition of the T20 carnival, spoiling Kolkata Knight Riders' party. CSK's spin trio - Noor Ahmad, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin - put on a combined effort to restrict the defending champions to a gettable score, with the Afghanistan tweaker grabbing four wickets.

CSK openers - Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway - bagged ducks before Urvil Patel smoked an 11-ball 31, only to see another collapse following his dismissal with the Yellow Army reeling at 60/5. Shivam Dube anchored the ship, while Brevis notched up a breathtaking half-century, turning things around in style and shifting the momentum back in CSK's favour. A few wickets fell at the back end, but Thala's calmness ensured that the Super Kings finally managed to break the jinx of big run chases.

On the other hand, RR were strengthened by Sanju Samson's return to full fitness in the last game, but that didn't change the inaugural champions' fate, with the Royals succumbing to a hat-trick of defeats heading into their last match of the season.

Samson allowed young Vaibhav Suryavanshi to continue opening the batting and shifted himself to number 3. Before coming to the chase, their toothless bowling attack conceded another 200-plus total. Punjab Kings batters smashed RR's bowling unit left, right and centre despite the Samson-led side getting a good start with the new ball. Tushar Deshpande, Riyan Parag and Kwena Maphaka somewhat bowled well, but there were too many loose balls gifted to the opposition in the whole innings.

Once again, the two young left-handed openers - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryavanshi - set the stage on fire with some quality and majestic ball striking. RR were well ahead of the required run rate at one point in time before the openers were dismissed. The middle order failed to score at the required clip, with Samson and Parag failing to convert their starts. It was another run chase where Dhruv Jurel scored a good amount of runs, scoring a fifty, while Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey failed to deliver the goods yet again, seeing RR fall short by 10 runs.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. The last time these two played in 2025 was in Guwahati, and Ruturaj Gaikwad was still playing and leading the five-time champions. It was also a thriller, where Noor Ahmad for CSK and Wanindu Hasaranga for RR shone, with the latter grabbing four important wickets and helping RR to seal a six-run close victory.

A bottom-of-the-table clash, with not too much at stake but yet the two franchises will avoid gaining an unwanted wooden spoon. Who will bag two crucial points? To know, join us at 6:30 PM IST and Local Time on Tuesday for its live coverage!
