The second game of Sunday’s double-header in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will head to the capital city. In match number 60, Delhi Capitals will host an upbeat Gujarat Titans at the Arun JaitleyStadium in Delhi on May 18.
Gujarat Titans are leading the points table with 16 points from 11 games. Just one win from their remaining three fixtures will secure them a place in the next round. However, if they win two out of three, GT will be assured of a top-two finish.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals are fifth on the points table with 13 points from 11 games. Three wins from their remaining matches would guarantee them a place in the playoffs. They could still qualify with two wins, but that would bring net run-rate into play. However, two losses in their last three games could end their campaign.
Faf du Plessis, Tristan Stubbs, Dushmantha Chameera, and Sediqullah Atal are the overseas players available for selection for the Capitals.
Mitchell Starc and Jake Fraser-McGurk have opted out of the remainder of the tournament. The Capitals signed Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Fraser-McGurk, but the Bangladeshi pacer will only be available until May 24 due to an upcoming bilateral series.
It has also been learnt that South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira will miss the rest of IPL 2025 due to personal reasons.
Meanwhile, the Titans, who are almost assured of a playoff berth, face a few setbacks regarding player availability for the latter stages of the tournament.
Jos Buttler, a key figure in their batting lineup, will miss the playoffs as he travels to England for the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies.
Kagiso Rabada is also set to miss the playoffs, having been asked to return home. South Africa are scheduled to face Australia in the World Test Championship final a week after the IPL final, and Rabada remains a vital part of the Proteas bowling attack.
Kusal Mendis is expected to join Gujarat Titans as a temporary replacement for Buttler once he departs for national duties.
These two sides have already met once in this year’s IPL, and it was a run-fest in Ahmedabad. Both teams crossed the 200-run mark, but Gujarat emerged victorious, chasing down 204 with four balls to spare, thanks to a special unbeaten knock of 97 by Jos Buttler.
