That marks the end of our coverage from the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Bangladesh have defended 248 successfully and came out voctorious by 16 runs. With this victory, they have levelled the series 1-1. The caravan now moves to Pallekele for the decider match scheduled to be played on the 8th of July, Tuesday.
For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and our scorer/analyst Sachin Yadav. Good night.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh Captain): "First of all, I would say that 240 is difficult to chase in the second innings. They played really well, and we needed wickets to win this match. I told Tanvir that we needed breakthroughs, and I just tried to pass on positive messages to the bowlers because without taking wickets, we couldn’t win."
Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka Captain):"I feel the toss was not critical. Our bowlers did a good job to restrict them under 250. I think the batting unit apart from Janith should take responsibility.
Yes Nishan Madushka and Kusal gave us a start and later me and Kamindu got the starts but couldn't capitalize. It's always pleasure to play a competitive decider. The series is 1-1 now. We hope to do better in Kandy."
Tanvir Islam (POTM): "I really felt good. Bowled in the right areas compared to the first game, and it paid off. I’m grateful to the captain, who gave me the confidence before the match and told me to focus on taking wickets, not just containing runs."

Deepak: Bangladesh end their drought at the R. Premadasa Stadium, registering their first ODI win at the venue after losing 11 consecutive matches here.
10:20 PM IST and Local Time | Mehidy Hasan Miraz's Bangladesh have registered a victory at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo in their eleventh attempt. This victory was much needed for the Bangladesh team as they fell flat in the first ODI. The series is all in balance now. Tanvir Islam walks off with the ball in hand. He is the architect of the win.
Bangladesh decided to bat first after winning the toss but lost their opener Tanzid Hasan early in the innings. The other opener Parvez Hossain Emon stood tall and scored 67 off 69 balls hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes. Emon was well partnered by Towhid Hridoy who scored a fine 51. Bangladesh did better than their performance in the first game against spin and were 204 for 5 in the 39th over.
They experienced a brief collapse after that. Jaker Ali went back and a few balls later, the well set Hridoy went back too. Hasan Mahmud and Tanvir Islam followed them. It was Tanzim Hasan Sakib who swung his bat to score 33 off 21 balls to take the score to 248 before getting bundled out.
Asitha Fernando was the star of the show picking up 4 wickets for 35 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga took 3 wickets.
Sri Lanka came to chase the run and despite losing Pathum Nissanka cheaply, they scored boundaries at regular intervals in the powerplay. Nishan Madushka started to hit the deliveries but when Kusal Mendis got it off the middle of his bat, there was no stoppage. He welcomed Mustafizur in the attack with four consecutive boundaries, took 14 off the first 3 balls of Tanvir Islam's second over. The hosts scored 75 off the first 10 overs losing just 2 wickets and by then, Kusal brought up his fifty in just 22 balls.
Miraz decided to bowl his spinners in tandem to restrict the run flow. His idea clicked instantly as Kusal was trapped in front by Tanvir for 56. He took just 31 balls to get there. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanvir bowled after that and later he introduced Shamim Hossain in the attack. The run rate got sloppy and Sri Lanka started to lose wickets out of the asking rate's pressure.
Janith Liyanage decided to take the game deep. Liyanage has been a good ODI batter for Sri Lanka in the middle overs. He took his chances against the pacers but showed respect to the spinners. Sri Lanka lost a few wickets in the lower order though and it led them to 171/8 at one stage. Dushmantha Chameera and Liyanage registered a 58-run partnership between them for the 9th wicket. Liyanage hit Mustafizur for a maximum to start the 48th over but a slower one from Fizz got the better of Liyanage. He scored a fine 78 off 85 balls hitting 7 fours and 2 maximums. Tanzim Hasan Sakib rattled Chameera's off stump to finish things off.
Tanvir Islam was the star of the bowling show. He took 5 wickets for just 39 runs from his 10 overs. The praise must go to Shamim Hossain. He bowled through the middle over phase and conceded just 22 off 9 overs picking up the important wicket of Sri Lanka skipper Asalanka. Miraz himself did well and finished with 1/37. Spinners were the key for the victory. Tanzim Hasan Sakib took 2 wickets for 34 runs. Mustafizur was a tad expensive as he conceded 56 off 8 overs but sans the important wicket of Liyanage, the victory would've gone out of the host's hands.
