On paper, South Africa's win does not change much. The final is still going to be played between India and Sri Lanka. However, it might have psychological implications that could go a long way in determining the outcome of the series.

Confidence and momentum are indeed important things in sport. Hence, this loss for the hosts is not ideal. But then, if you want to be crowned as champions, you have to find a way to bounce back. Will Sri Lanka be able to?

We will find out together on Sunday, May 11th. Do join us then. For now it is time for the troika of Darpan Tikiya, Akshay Bhide and Dushyant Madukar to sign off. We hope that you enjoyed the coverage as much as we did bringing it to you. Feel free to scroll below and read through the match summary. Sayonara!
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women captain): "Very nice to get that win. Good way to end the tournament. It does not happen too often that we score 300+ in consecutive games. So we are definitely doing something right.

Annerie Dercksen has been fantastic. She has had an amazing season. Barring one game, she has scored every time. We have been trying some new spinners. Usually, we go with a seam heavy attack. Also, we play seam more. But in the last two games we have played 40 overs of spin"
Chloe Tryon (Player of the Match): "We were in a bit of trouble at that stage. I think we had lost four for nine. Me and Annerie decided to take it deep. She batted brilliantly for her hundred. In the last phase, we decided to take on the bowling attack.

I knew we had time and she was striking the ball cleanly. So, I just decided to give her the strike. I just had to get my eye in. Soak in some pressure and then it was fireworks in the end.

(On picking up the hat-trick) I don't know how I did. I wasn't great in the morning. I honestly don't know how I got through today. Happy with it. Unforgettable."
Player of the Match: Chloe Tryon
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain): "Actually, first 25 overs, we done really good. Last 25 overs, we struggled little bit as a bowling unit. We dropped a few catches. These dropped catches affected this result.

I'm pretty confident of my bowling unit. In the last two games, our batters did really well. Hopefully, they continue that. In the last 10 games, we have won more games because we have chased really good. You have to play good cricket. You can't predict the toss.

We have to play our best game. We don't have any pressure because we know India is a good team and they have experienced players. We want to play our best game."

5:01 PM: South Africa Women win by 76 runs.

South Africa have not just salvaged their pride but mauled the hosts and dented their confidence before the grand finale. It is a thumping 76-run victory that would be remembered for Chloe Tryon's hat-trick at the fag end, which acted as the catalyst and brought about a swift end to the game. But in all fairness, the writing was pretty much on the wall long before.

It is a win that was set up by contributions from the three all-rounders who now seem to have become the backbone of this team. First was obviously Tyron, who earlier scored a sparkling 51-ball-74 during the course of which she also smoked Athapaththu for three successive sixes. She then returned a fifer with the ball which included the wickets of both the openers and that hat-trick towards the end. The second was Annerie Dercksen, whose maiden ODI ton was a treat to watch. She came out to bat when it seemed as if South Africa were losing their way after a decent start. Riding on that splendid knock, the Proteas women went from 85/5 in the 20th over to 315/9 at the end of the 50th.

The third and perhaps the most understated of them was Nadine de Klerk, who has made vital contributions on multiple occasions in this series. Today, her 19-ball-32 propelled the team to their highest ever total against Sri Lanka and then her stunning catch triggered the hat-trick.

It seemed as if Sri Lanka were in the game till the time Chamari Athapaththu was at the crease. She had her share of luck — a dropped catch and a missed stumping — and went onto make a sprightly half-century. But it was Ayobanga Khaka's second spell that turned it around. She dismissed the SL skipper and Nilakshi de Silva in consecutive overs to rock the boat and the hosts never recovered. Before that the three top order batters had each got themselves off to a start but failed to convert it into big scores. Anushka Sanjeewani's unbeaten 32-ball-43 down the order was pugnacious but not enough.

Special mention to Dewmi Vihanga, who impressed one and all with her guile and control over the ball. The off-spinner generated delectable loop and drift to deceive the batters in flight. She also got the ball to zip sharply off the deck and became only the 5th Sri Lankan bowler to pick a fifer in Women's ODIs.
