Milestone
That concludes the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium, with India wrapping up the match in just around two and a half days, hammering West Indies by an innings and 140 runs. The second and final Test of the series will be played in Delhi, starting on 10th October.

For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh who, along with scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar brought all the actions of this day's play. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE👋
Chairman of Indian selection committee Ajit Agarkar will be addressing the post-match press conference instead of Shubman Gill or Gautam Gambhir. He will be announcing white-ball squads for the Australia tour.

11 - Rahul Dravid, Ravindra Jadeja*

10 - Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble
Ravindra Jadeja (POTM): "Yeah, I have been working hard on my batting. We had 2 months off, I was working on my fitness and worked on my skills as well at the NCA.

(On his batting position) Yeah, I have batting at 8 and 9. Now I have got my number 6, I can pace my innings. I don't need to hurry, no need to rush can take my time.

Playing on red soil is always fun. I was enjoying when I got to know that we will play here on a red soil. It is good for batting and bowling.

(On getting vice-captaincy) I would like to thank coach, captain and selectors. Being vice-captain, is a special honour. Whenever the team require any suggestion, I am always there.

(On being captain for a breif period today) No, I am still not there (leader of spinners). Ash was there. Kuldeep has played a number of years for India. No need to give unnecessary suggestions to anyone."
Player of the Match: Ravindra Jadeja
Shubman Gill (India Captain): "Yeah, I mean six losses in a row but as long as we keeping winning the matches, it doesn't matter for us. Really happy with our performance in this game. (On losing tosses)

Honestly I think this was a perfect game for us. 3 centurions and we fielded really well too in both the innings. Honestly, we didn't have any complaints. It was a pretty good wicket to bat on. We both (Gill & Yashasvi) got starts but failed to convert it. The others did it so happy for them.

When you have got quality spinners like them, it's very difficult to rotate but it's good to have an option of too many rather than not having too many options to choose. It's always difficult but that's the fun of playing. There will always be someone who is ready to do the job for the team.

I have learned so many things. I think over a period of two years, we have bonded really well as a team and how we have managed to get ourselves out from tough situations that was really pleasing for me to see. We are still a learning side but as long as we keep learning from our experiences that we have, we will be on the positive side of the match."
Roston Chase (West Indies Captain): "Yeah, obviously, when you win the toss and opt to bat, getting bowled out on the first day for 160 odd, it is tough to come back from that. They scored a lot of runs. So, yeah, not a performance we were looking for.

I mean, we have to bat better. In India, you have to put a big total on the board in the first innings. It is something we need to look at.

Yeah, I had no problem with the decision. Although there was moisture in the wicket, but this is Test cricket. It is always going to have moisture on the wicket. We needed to dig in deep and play past that period.

I didn't think the timing was off. I think when we did take the new ball, we didn't make the batters play enough. We need to test the batters a bit more, bowl at the stumps.

Batting is the main problem. It is a bit easier as a fielding unit as you have all the 11 men in the field. You need to form partnerships in the batting department. We need to string some partnerships to get better."
