It was a series that entertained us throughout — a thrilling Tim David knock in the first match, a coming of the age innings from Dewald Brevis in the second and a humdinger where Maxwell took the hosts over the line tonight. Jee! It has left us all wanting for more.
If you're feeling the same, then don't fret. There are three more white-ball fixtures between these two teams lined up for the next week. The ODI series begins on Tuesday, August 19. And like always, Team CREX will be here to call the action. Do join us then.
For now, it is the troika of Darpan Tikiya, AkshayaKrishna Polya and Bishal Mandal signing off! Sayonara! 👋
South Africa have won only one out of their last 10 bilateral T20I series.
Mitchell Marsh (Australia captain): "Always nice to win the close ones in T20 cricket, but happy to get over the line. Glenn Maxwell is a world class player. He has batted in three different positions in all three matches. But he makes it look easy. Happy to get runs. The upcoming ODI series will be a hard fought one."
Aiden Markram (South Africa Captain): "Yeah, a good game of cricket. Unfortunately, we ended up on the wrong side of it.
Yeah, a few small margins which could have gone either way. Definitely, not enough on the board tonight, but we fought well with the ball. Not the way we wanted to end, but still some good things to take from this series.
Not many people can do what Brevis does. He is a very special player and works really hard on his game. We kept improving, and there is plenty of good for us to take from this series, but never great to lose it."
Tim David (Player of the Series): "Maxi (Maxwell) playing a blinding innings tonight was amazing. We have had a great time in North Australia here. I try to keep it simple and try to enjoy myself. I think form comes and goes. But a lot of the work I have been doing has been contributing to the success of the team."
Player of the Series: Tim David
Glenn Maxwell (POTM): "Yeah, I was a bit nervous when we lost a couple of wickets in a row, and Corbin Bosch bowled a brilliant over.
To keep the run-rate near 9 or 10, we were down to two wickets, and I had to keep the majority of the strike. I know I have to hit a couple of big hits. Nice to get a couple out of the middle right at the end.
I just stayed calm, watched the ball, didn't preempt too much, and understood the areas where I could get the boundaries. Just tried to stay on strike as much as possible.
We have had a great run with this T20 group. To have another series win against a quality South African side is great for our confidence. We are building something really nice in this group. It is certainly a fun change room to be in, and I am enjoying every moment."
