That is it from the second ODI between Australia and India. Another disappointing result for the Men in Blue. Tonight, they fought hard, unlike Perth, but the series drifted away. Tough comeback for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with the former managing to fight the situation and scoring a fifty, while the latter bagged consecutive ducks and things aren't looking good for the Indian great. Shubman Gill lost his first ODI series as skipper, but he will have plenty to play for in the third and final ODI at SCG, coming up on Saturday.

For now, this is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator, Pritam Dey, scorer Zeeshan Naiyer, and statistician Aman. We will meet again. Until then, it is cheers!!!
NUMBERS GAME: Cooper Connolly, at 22 years and 62 days old, became the youngest Australian to score an ODI fifty since Mark Cosgrove's fifty against Bangladesh in Fatullah in 2006, when he was 21 years and 318 days old.

Connolly is also the youngest Aussie to score an ODI fifty at home since Ricky Ponting's half-century against Sri Lanka in Melbourne, when he was 21 years and 30 days old.
List of Indian Captains to Lose their 1st TWO ODIs:

Ajit Wadekar

Dilip Vengsarkar

Krishnamachari Srikkanth

Mohammad Azharuddin

KL Rahul

Shubman Gill
Mitchell Marsh (Australia Captain): "Ah... It is very rare to play in front of big crowds in ODI cricket. Thrilled to have won the series after losing a couple.

Ah!!! Hazlewood has been awesome. He has been unbelievable. He probably took the best none for I have ever seen. Unreal spell. Our bowling unit kept trying to pick wickets.

(On Cooper Connolly) I'll start calling him chaos. The future's bright for Australian cricket with guys like them (Connolly, Owen and Bartlett). Awesome batting from them (Connolly, Short and Owen).

We will certainly have a beer and enjoy ourselves in the changing room for a while. But there is a small turnaround between this game and the next at SCG. However, India are a great team. So, we will want to enjoy this win."
Shubman Gill (India Captain): I think we just had enough runs on the board in the end. It is never easy to defend such a score when you drop a few catches.

The pitch got better as the ball got older. The toss was definitely more crucial at Perth than here. Both teams played almost 50 overs. Wicket settled nicely after the first 10-20 overs.

It is never easy to come back after a while. Rohit was coming back to play competitive cricket after a long time. Pleased with the way he fought after that initial phase. I would say he missed out on a big knock."
Adam Zampa (POTM): "Yes! It is nice to beat India. We have a good battle in the ODIs. Two teams that adapt well to the conditions. Even in India, we've always tested them, and they've tested us at times as well. They are the best team in the world for some time. Great to test ourselves against them.

Grateful to come onto bowl generally after Starc and Hazlewood. Those guys have been doing well for a while in the powerplay. I have been very grateful and lucky for a while now. And then you've got the new guys coming in, Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis. They have been doing their thing through the middle. It makes my job a lot easier in the middle.

The beauty of Marsh is that he's chilled, relaxed, never too emotional. We older guys run our own show (chuckles)."

5:10 PM IST and 10:10 PM Local Time: Australia seal a tense run chase by 2 wickets at Adelaide Oval and take a 2-0 unassailable lead in this 3-match series! India played much better than Perth, but it wasn't enough against the strong Australian side in their own backyard. India dragged the game till the 47th over, but they left a few runs behind with the bat in the first innings. This marks India's first defeat in ODIs at Adelaide Oval in 17 years.

Earlier in the game, Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Xavier Bartlett made life difficult for the Indian top order, with Hoff beating Rohit Sharma's both edges for fun. Bartlett dismissed Shubman Gill for 9 and Virat Kohli for his second duck in a row in the 7th over to push India on the back foot.

Rohit and Shreyas Iyer hit respective half-centuries and added a 118-run third-wicket partnership to steady the ship. Starc broke the stand by removing Rohit for a hard-working 73 off 96 balls. Shreyas hit 61 off 77 balls, but Adam Zampa cleaned him up and also knocked over KL Rahul in quick succession. Axar Patel (44 off 41) played a neat knock, but lacked support with Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy failing big time.

India were reeling at 226/8 and falling away in the death overs, but a brilliant fightback from Harshit Rana (24* off 18) and Arshdeep Singh (13 off 14), adding a 37-run 9th wicket stand, helped India to 264/9 in 50 overs.

For Australia, Zampa finished with 4/60, Bartlett finished with 3/39, and Starc picked up 2/62. Hazlewood went wicketless but conceded only 29 runs in his 10 overs.

Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh bowled tight new-ball spells and saw Marsh and Travis Head struggle up front. Arshdeep got rid of Marsh just when the Aussie skipper tried to be the aggressor. Harshit Rana came into the attack and removed Head for 28 in his first over.

Matthew Short took the responsibility and made full use of the two dropped catches to slam his 3rd ODI fifty. He steadied the ship with a 55-run partnership with Matthew Renshaw (30 off 30), before Axar Patel (1/52) knocked over the Queenslander and Sundar cleaned up Alex Carey to put some pressure back on the hosts.

Short kept playing his natural game and got to his career-best 74 off 78 balls. He added a calm 55-run stand with Cooper Connolly, who played a pivotal role in this win for the home side.

When Rana (2/59) dismissed Short, India were still in the game, but Mitchell Owen came out all guns blazing to shut the door for the tourists with his riveting 36 off just 23 balls. Owen and Connolly were involved in a 50+ partnership, and that turned out to be crucial for the Aussies.

Sundar (2/37) got rid of Owen before Arshdeep Singh (2/41) and Siraj (1/49) removed Bartlett and Starc to drag the game down to the wire, but Connolly (61* off 53) held his nerves with only single figures required and stood tall with his maiden ODI fifty.
