Down and out, Barbados Royals will be playing at home for one last time in the Caribbean Premier League 2025 as they take on Trinbago Knight Riders in the 28th match of the season at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, on Saturday (September 13).
The Royals have a tournament to forget as they languish at the bottom of the points table with just three points from eight matches, having won only one and lost six. One of their matches was abandoned due to rain.
With Barbados losing to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the previous game, the Rovman Powell-led side was officially eliminated from the competition.
It was thought that the Royals, who defeated the defending champions, Saint Lucia Kings, on Sunday, would return to the winning ways at last. However, the hosts bottled things against SKNP in their most recent outing.
A collective bowling performance from the Royals ensured they restricted the Patriots to 150/7 in 20 overs. Eathan Bosch was the pick of the bowlers, snapping three wickets, while Daniel Sams and Chris Green returned with a couple of wickets each, setting the game up for their batters.
Barbados got off to a decent start, with Quinton de Kock and Brandon King getting into their 20s. Rassie van der Dussen kept things in control with his unbeaten 37 off 27 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford and Powell chipped in with handy contributions to push the Royals towards the target. The Royals needed 31 off the last three overs. Holder bowled two of them, conceded just 17, and picked up two wickets in the process as well. Holder held his nerves against the likes of van der Dussen and Sams to stun his former franchise, handing the Powell-led side a one-run defeat and knocking them out of the tournament.
On the flip side, TKR, who have already qualified for the playoffs, will look to end the league phase with a bang as they need to return to winning ways ahead of the next round. They are currently second on the points table, with 12 points from 9 matches, having won 6 and lost 3. They are coming off successive defeats and have slightly fallen off track.
Mohammad Amir is still battling with his left groin injury. USA's left-arm seamer Saurabh Netravalkar has been named as a temporary replacement for Amir, who will be with the TKR's medical team for rehabilitation.
Can Trinbago Knight Riders move into the playoffs with a win, or will the Royals finish their home leg with a victory? To know, join us at 3:30 AM IST on Saturday and 6 PM Local Time on Friday for its live coverage!
