That's it from our coverage of the 4th quarter-final of the National T20 Cup between Sialkot Region and Lahore Blues. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.
Semi-Final Lineup:
Semi-Final 1: Abbottabad Region v Peshawar Region
Semi-Final 2: Multan Region v Lahore Blues
Hussain Talat (Lahore Blues Captain): "We had an idea that we might need to defend such a total sometime in the tournament. The powerplays were important and we won the game there. There was a time when they were accelerating but if some wickets fall in quick time in T20 cricket, things can change.
They had a couple of off spinners and that's why we tried to get the left-hand-right-hand combination in the middle. I am fine with batting down the order for the team as well.
We are playing really well. We need to be better as a bowling unit. We have fielded really well throughout the tournament and would look to continue the same."
Shoaib Malik (Sialkot Region Captain): "The powerplay was crucial, we should have added at least 50 runs to get the momentum. T20 is not about losing wickets but about gaining momentum. It was chaseable.
When you are playing the new ball, it's the batter's responsibility. The batters are talented but there were quality pacers operating and we needed batters with better technique and someone to play through the line to face them.
Surely disappointed after the loss. The players have the potential and are getting the platforms. I hope they will work on the mistakes for the next tournament."
Umar Siddique (Player of the Match): "We didn't chase such a big total in other games. A big innings was due and it was the right moment. The ball was spinning a bit. I am prepared for the coming games."
Player of the Match: Umar Siddique
3:10 AM IST, 2:40 AM Local Time: Lahore Blues become the 4th side after Abbotabad, Multan and Peshawar to seal the last semi-final in the National T20 Cup after defeating Sialkot Region by 33 runs.
Sialkot captain Shoaib Malik won the toss and elected to field. Umar Siddique hit 65 off 44 balls to take Blues to 184. Hasan Ali picked up 4/42 to help restrict the opposition to the score.
Sialkot lost the dashing opener Mohammad Huraira in the first over for a duck. The early breakthrough triggered an early collapse as the team slid down to 54/4. Mirza Tahir Baig continued to bat through the middle overs and hit 77 off 47 balls before being run out in the 18th over.
Tahir added 47 for the 5th wicket with captain Shoaib Malik (20 off 16) and 36 with Hasan Ali (25 off 10) for the 7th wicket but the rest of the batting order didn't help the team's cause.
Nisar Ahmed (2/27), Hussain Talat (2/25), Mohammad Rizwan JNR (2/35) and Mohammad Irfan (2/41) picked up a couple of wickets each and helped bundle Sialkot in the 19th over.
