So that marks the end of our coverage of the match between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings. Quetta Gladiators were losing the position but came back strongly in the later half of the second innings and defended the low resource of 143.
For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Deepak Prakash and Ajay Pal Singh and our scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. Good night.
Saud Shakeel (Quetta Gladiators Captain): "Yes, I feel they started well. But we had the belief that we will fight till the end. That's what we did. After Tim Seifert's dismissal, we felt we were in the game and then Khushdil Shah's dismissal really opened the game for us.
Yes, fielding is one thing when a team does well in that facet, the team usually does well. As a captain when fielders do well, it becomes easy for him to lead.
I think the pitch was 180 to 200, sort of a wicket. But we are losing wickets in powerplay, it has happened thrice in three games. But I feel I have a strong batting line-up and when we click as unit, it will be great."
Abrar Ahmed (Player of the Match):"It was a low scoring match. The try was to take the wickets. I didn't get the wickets but bowled well. Everybody bowled well. Wasim, Amir bhai and all. I just contributed a bit.
I tried to use my flippers. The focus was to alter the pace and then I restricted the batters. It is always a nice thing to contribute to the team."
Player of the Match: Abrar Ahmed
Time for the post-match presentation.
David Warner (Karachi Kings Captain): "Look I think we have to look at the positives. Couldn't have been more proud of our bowlers. We just weren't good enough. I don't mind losing a game while fighting but handing a game to the opposition is just not on.
We didn't take any positive approach. I don't think they bowled well, we were too complacent with our batting.
The wicket was fantastic. 141 doesn't reflect the wicket at all. 180 should have been the total here. Dew might have played a factor too.
It is about assessing where we are. Where we have won games, we have been positive but just missed our mark tonight."
12:08 AM IST and 11:38 PM Local Time | Quetta Gladiators have clinched an unthinkable victory. Karachi Kings needed around run-a-ball in the last 9 overs and the Gladiators showed the valour and brilliance to restrict them and win the game by a margin of mere 5 runs.
Earlier after being sent to bat first, Gladiators lost their top three cheaply in Saud Shakeel, Finn Allen and Rilee Rossouw. But Kusal Mendis gave a brief fight for his 36 off 22 balls. The Sri Lankan keeper-batter got out for 36 off 22 balls and Mark Chapman's failure reduced the Quetta side to 69/5. But the pair of Hasan Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf was crucial to give the Gladiators' bowlers some resource to defend. They together added 59 for the 6th wicket. Hasan was watchful on his way to score 35 but Faheem Ashraf top scored with 43 from 27 balls with 4 fours and 3 maximums. This two innings propelled the Gladiators to post 142 on the board.
Hasan Ali was the best bowler for the Kings with his 3 wickets for 33 runs. Abbas Afridi and Mir Hamza took 2 wickets each. Mohammad Nabi and Fawad Ali took a wicket each.
David Warner started the run chase with a boundary but got out three balls later. Tim Seifert and James Vince accelerated after the Karachi skipper's dismissal. Their partnership of 73 runs gave the Kings an upper hand. But James Vince got out with 77 runs on the board and Kings' downfall started. Shan Masood played a horrible innings of 9 runs off 17 balls and it worsened the situation. Tim Seifert's wicket at the wrong time shifted the game in favour of the Gladiators. The Kiwi keeper scored 47 runs off 26 balls with 5 fours and a couple of maximums.
Quetta Gladiators' bowlers were incredibly brilliant with their execution in the death overs. Saud Shakeel rotated his bowlers perfectly. Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nabi and Abbas Afridi together contributed just 4 runs and the failure of middle order incurred the Kings to reel backward in the game. Hasan Ali swung his bat to score 24 off 13 balls with 3 fours and a maximum but despite his efforts, Kings fell short by 5 runs.
Mohammad Amir, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Wasim- the pace trio took a couple of wickets each for the Gladiators. Abrar Ahmed and skipper Saud Shakeel took a wicket each.
