Monank Patel (POTM & USA Captain): "I mean, winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, I thought we did a really good job restricting them to under 140. With an inexperienced side, especially a few making their debut, the way we bowled was impressive. I think we handled the challenge really well.
It was a tough situation. We lost three early wickets, and some of their bowlers were really breathing fire. In the first six overs during the powerplay, there was something in the pitch for the bowlers, and I think we weren’t proactive enough in assessing the conditions. That led to us losing three wickets in the powerplay.
But it was important for us to take the game deep. We knew we were one batsman short, so my partnership with Sanjay was crucial. Later on, the way Aaron and I batted took us deep into the chase. It was important for one player to take responsibility and finish the game.
Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of talent among us, and it's important that they get this exposure on this platform. We need to give them enough opportunities to express themselves and gain that valuable experience.
I mean, as I said, the powerplay wasn’t easy early on. When you lose three wickets, it’s crucial to get through that phase without taking unnecessary risks or losing more wickets. So, it was important for me to take my time and take the game deep. It wasn’t a big total—140 was on the board. Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Aamir Kaleem and Jatinder Singh scored briskly from the outset and provided a solid start for Oman. The opening duo added 48 runs for the first wicket but failed to convert it into a massive partnership as Ali Khan trapped Kaleem for 27 runs, drawing the first blood for the USA. Mujibur Ali looked sluggish and could only muster 9 runs off 16 balls.
Jatinder notched up his fifty but failed to convert it into a big score, departing for 57 runs in the 14th over. Ali Khan, who looked sluggish in the first T20I, wreaked havoc with the ball in this contest and removed wickets at regular intervals. Oman lost momentum in the second half of the innings and fell like ninepins. Eventually, they were restricted to 141/9 in 20 overs.
