We are down to the final few games in the Women's Hundred 2025. The dominating Southern Brave Women have locked the final spot. However, there is still plenty to play for four teams, Northern Superchargers Women, London Spirit Women, Manchester Originals Women and Trent Rockets Women.
Oval Invincibles Women, who are already eliminated from the tournament, will face London Spirit Women at Kennington Oval on Monday (August 25). The London derby will be the 29th match of the season.
The Lauren Winfield-Hill-led side is sixth on the points table, with 8 points from 7 matches, having won two and lost five. Although it is out of playoff contention, it will look to spoil the Spirit's party.
The two-time champions have had a horrible run of form as they are coming off a hat-trick of defeats. In the last game, they bowed to Northern Superchargers Women by a margin of seven wickets.
Batting first, Oval posted 125/6 in 100 balls. They didn't get off to a good start and lost wickets at regular intervals. There were plenty of batters reaching double figures. Only skipper Winfield-Hill looked like weathering the storm and hit a 30-ball 37 that helped her side to reach a respectable score.
The Invincibles used as many as eight bowlers, but they failed to restrict the Superchargers in the end. Phoebe Franklin, Sophia Smale and Amanda-Jade Wellington picked up a wicket each, but eventually, those efforts weren't enough as the opposition cruised home with a set in hand.
On the other hand, the Spirit are currently third on the points table, with 16 points from 7 games, having won four and lost three. Still, anything can happen in this competition. A good win will almost confirm their finish in the top three, but they still have to wait for the result of the game between Northern Superchargers Women and Manchester Originals Women, which will confirm who will be featuring in the Eliminator.
After a flying start to the tournament, the Charlie Dean-led unit has lost its way as it has lost the last two matches heading into this must-win fixture.
Put into bat first by Southern Brave Women in the last game, the Spirit managed only 125/8 in 100 balls as they collapsed badly from a strong position. After a poor start, Cordelia Griffith and Charlie Knott steadied the ship, scoring 44 and 36, respectively, before they lost wickets in clusters at the backend of the innings to fall short of a par total.
Issy Wong was the lone warrior with the ball for the Spirit as she took two wickets. The rest of the bowling group applied no resistance as London Spirit accepted their eight-wicket defeat in the penultimate set.
This is the second time that these two sides are meeting in this season. London Spirit won the earlier fixture by 17 runs. A high-scoring fixture was set up by Grace Harris' blistering 42-ball 89* and Cordelia Griffith's 50, before Meg Lanning helped the Invincibles to give a tough fight with her 51-ball 85, only to fall short by a few runs in the end.
