That marks the end of our coverage of the 16th match of the Men's Hundred 2025 between Oval Invincibles and Welsh Fire. The Invincibles have put up a great performance and took the game away from the Fire.
For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Karthik Raj and the scorer/analyst of this game Paras Yadav. Good night.
Jordan Cox (Hero of the Match):"It was good. To play at the Oval every game is an honour. Since the time-out, everything changed. Our coached asked us to bat freely and take on the bowlers we want. Massively. I don't think anyone can do that without Sammy (Sam Curran) coming in, Donovan (Ferreira) doing it. Top-spot is what we want. We have to work hard and be disciplined, so far we have been good."
Jordan Cox has been named as the 'Hero of the Match'.
1:12 AM IST and 8:42 PM Local Time | Oval Invincibles have got a mammoth victory by 83 runs as they completely outplayed the Welsh Fire. They are in the third position of the points table now with 10 points from four games. Their NRR was superior to the other teams and now it goes more upwards.
Oval Invincibles were sent to bat first by Jonny Bairstow after he won the toss. Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye started to hit the balls in every part of the ground and grabbed the powerplay's advantage with both hands. They added 76 runs from their opening stand in 39 balls. Muyeye and Jacks got out in a quick succession. Jordan Cox and Sam Curran then started to take their team forward. Cox was struggling in his first 8 balls and Sam took the aggressor's role. The time-out was taken after the 12th over and the Invincibles were on 99/2 then.
The game saw a paradigm shift right after the powerplay. Jacks hit Ajeet Singh Dale for three back-to-back maximums then and started hitting the bowlers for fun. The third wicket partnership was off 97 runs from 39 balls. Sam Curran became the assistant only after that time-out. Sam found Steven Smith at wide long-on on 34 off 19 but Cox continued the firework. Donovan Ferreira played a valuable cameo of 18 runs from 6 balls with a boundary and two maximums. Jordan Cox hit 10 sixes, the joint most by a batter in the Men's Hundred competition in 29 balls and finished with an unbeaten 86. His blitzkrieg powered the Invincibles to 226/4 at the end of their 20 sets.
For the Welsh Fire, Matt Henry took 2 wickets. Chris Green and Saif Zaib got a wicket each.
Coming to chase the run, Welsh Fire lost their opener Stephen Eskinazi for a golden duck as Tawanda Muyeye grabbed a stunning low catch at point. Steven Smith got a boundary but another terrific catch from Jordan Cox ended his stay on 7. Luke Wells chipped in and he hit a few handsome looking shots before his slog sweep off Rashid Khan found Sam Curran in the deep on 29.
Jonny Bairstow and Tom Kohler-Cadmore- two fine white ball players then started scoring runs at a good pace. They added 61 runs from just 29 balls. Jonny Bairstow shifted the gears and got to his fifty in 27 balls but in the very next ball, he inside edged Tom Curran's full toss to the base of his leg stump and departed for 50. In the same fashion, Tom removed Paul Walter just two balls later. The dire straits began for the Welsh Fire. They started to gift away their wickets out of the asking rate's pressure. Chris Green, Saif Zaib, David Payne- nobody could sustain and partner TKC in the middle. TKC inside edged his tickle off Saqib Mahmood to Sam Billings on his personal score of 31 and that ended the hopes for the Welsh Fire. Tom Curran then finished the innings with two back-to-back wickets in the penultimate set of the match.
Tom Curran was the star of the bowling picking up 4 wickets for 15 runs. Jason Behrendorff took 3 wickets for 20 runs only. Saqib Mahmood, Sam Curran and Rashid Khan celebrated a wicket each.
Sam Curran helps his brother to grab his fourth wicket. A timely jump from Sam and he completes the catch. Welsh Fire got completely outplayed and lost the game by 83 runs.
93b T Curran to A Dale
W SHARP CATCH FROM SAM CURRAN AND TOM CURRAN HAS FOUR! Full outside-off, Dale drills it aerially to short extra-cover where Sam takes a very smart catch to his right. What a fantastic performance from the Curran brothers as they too play a part in the Oval Invincibles' 83-run victory!
