PM Local Time: What a complete team performance from the Northern Superchargers
as they seal a convincing 36-run win over the Birmingham Phoenix in front of
the home fans. Matthew Potts with 3/26 and Adil Rashid with 2/26 the pick of
the Superchargers’ bowlers as they showed their quality on a batting friendly
track.
Chasing 194 for victory, the Phoenix got off to the worst possible start as they lost the Top 3 for just 27 runs. The star duo of Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell got together and built an impressive partnership to keep the Phoenix's hopes alive. However, Harry Brook rotated his bowlers well and they also stepped up with Rashid, in particular, leading from the front. The leg-spinner broke the 80-run partnership in the 13th set as he had Bethell caught and bowled in a cracking fashion.
Livingstone carried on for a little more before he holed out to Mitchell Santner in the deep to become Rashid's second victim. Then, Tom Lawes removed the duo of Louis Kimber and Benny Howell as the wickets started to tumble. Potts and Jacob Duffy also added one more scalp each to their tally as the game came down to a quiet end. In the end, the Phoenix could only muster up 157/9 off their 100 balls.
Earlier in the match, it was an explosive batting performance from the hosts as they put on an impressive 193/5 on the board. Zak Crawley sizzled with 45 off 23 balls while his opening partner, Dawid Malan also made 58 off 34 balls. No.3, Michael Pepper came up with a rusty 21-ball 28 but Harry Brook played some outrageous shots to compile an unbeaten 31 off just 14 balls.
