So that is it from myself, Karthik Raj and my co-commentators, Anirudh Modi and AkshayaKrishna as we wrap up the coverage of this contest. A note of thanks to our scorer, Paras Yadav as well. Do stay tuned and join us for the first match of the 2025 CPL season in a few hours' time.
Jamie Smith (Player of the Match): "It's been difficult at home, and its great to come out here and perform in front of the home crowd. Trent Rockets did really well, but we took the pace off and brought in the dimensions of the ground, it was important to take wickets and push the rate upwards.

We have a quality team and we need to keep building relationships. With Warner and Williamson, we have good experience in our side too."
Player of the Match: Jamie Smith

01:47 AM IST, 09:17 PM Local Time: A pretty one-sided game in the end as the Trent Rockets’ chase went nowhere. The hosts managed to restrict the Rockets to just 141/6 off their 100 balls. Daniel Worrall and Richard Gleeson with two wickets apiece while Liam Dawson and Jamie Overton also bowled well to hand-over the first defeat of the season to the Rockets.

Chasing 163 for victory, Tom Banton and Joe Root got off to a pretty decent start before they started to slow down. The Rockets had got to 38/0 in the Powerplay but managed only 69/0 at the end of the 10th set. Soon, Tom Banton played on a length delivery from Jamie Overton in a strange way while Daniel Worrall got David Willey and Rehan Ahmed in the same set. Liam Dawson also chipped in with the wicket of Joe Root as the Rockets slipped to 90/4.

Things continued to get worse as Jamie Overton bowled a nasty short delivery which struck Tom Alsop’s nose as the latter suffered a cut and had to walk off the field. The innings went nowhere from there as Kane Williamson rotated his bowlers superbly. Richard Gleeson came back into the attack and bowled Max Holden with a slower delivery to get his first scalp in the 17th set. Gleeson also bowled a fine slower bounce to get rid of Adam Hose in his next set.

At one end, Marcus Stoinis played a strange knock as he played with restrain until the game was done as he smashed a couple of sixes off Liam Dawson’s bowling in the final set. In the end, the Spirit reigned supreme by 21 runs in front of the home crowd.

Earlier in the match, the Trent Rockets suffered dearly for their poor catching with a number of London Spirit batters benefiting. The Spirit made a change to their opening combination as Jamie Smith opened and the move worked as he registered a fifty. Kane Williamson with 45 and Ashton Turner with 30 were also superb as they helped the Spirit post a target upwards of 150. Eventually, Ollie Pope's 17-run cameo helped the Spirit to post 162/5 on the board.

1 Single to end the match! London Spirit break Trent's streak and take home the W by 21 runs! Full-length delivery, following Stoinis' moving down leg, closes the bat face for a flick, gets a leading edge through cover-point for a run.

2 Full length delivery, on the stumps, slogs it to cow corner for a couple.
