Right then. New Zealand beat the hosts Pakistan comprehensively in the curtain-raiser of the Champions Trophy 2025. The action now shifts to Dubai tomorrow where India will take on Bangladesh. Another crucial clash in Group A that one. Do join us for that.

For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentators AkshayaKrishna Polya, Pritam Dey and scorer Raju Khariya. Until next time, cheers and good bye.
Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain): "I guess the way we batted today impressed me the most. I feel Pakistan bowled really well with the new ball but the way Will Young and Tom Latham batted through that middle phase was brilliant. And then we had Glenn Phillips, providing the finishing touches.

Yeah, I think so. We spoke about that with the players. We wanted to target the 260-270 run mark but if we had wickets in hand, we wanted to go hard in the last 10 overs. I think we did exactly that.

I think obviously after the score we got, the first 10 overs with the ball was really important. I was very happy with the way both our new ball bowlers went with their lines and lengths. We restricted them to just 20 in the powerplay and then squeezed in the runs post the powerplay. I think we did a great job with the ball tonight.

(On that catch by Glenn Phillips) Well I think nowadays, you kind of expect those things from GP. We got rid of Mohammad Rizwan as we knew it was a massive wicket for us. He batted really well and also chipped in with the ball.

I think we were very much familiar with the opponent and the conditions. We have played them quite often now. We had a really good game tonight and will look to carry on with the momentum. Also, Fakhar not being able to open was also something which went in our favour.

Our ground fielding was top class tonight. We would like to build more partnerships in the next game and also take all the positive things we have done from this one."
Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan Captain): "I think they made a very good target on the board. We didn't expect they would get 320. At one stage, it looked like they would get 260. But the partnership between Latham and Young took the game away from us and they played really well.

Basically, we see the condition of the pitch. Early on, it wasn't easy to bat. Will Young and Latham's knocks were crucial. We did the same mistake we did in Lahore. We didn't bowl in same spots and that allowed them to score big.

(On Fakhar's injury) We don't know about it. He looks in pain. Let's wait and see the result from the doctor.

Basically, we lost two momentums. First in the death overs and the second when we came in to bat. Fakhar Zaman was crucial. We know how they use the powerplay. It was crucial for us in the chase.

Every match is important for us. We played today as a normal match. We are the defending champions of the Champions Trophy and there is extra pressure on us. Hopefully, we will bounce back in the next game."
Tom Latham (POTM): "Yeah, I certainly think so. We have played a few games here in the tri-series. So quite used to the surface but it was a slightly different surface to the ones we played on in the tri-series.

The way Will Young batted, and the way GP (Glenn Phillips) played towards the end were brilliant. The partnership with Young was excellent. It felt nice to contribute. Then to get to 320 was just brilliant.

When I came in, it was about building a partnership. We were able to go through the gears a little bit more and increase the run rate, and when you have wickets in hand with these short sized square boundaries, you can make hay towards the back end. The score we made was well above par. Then the way GP (Glenn Phillips) hit at the end was fantastic.

It was not ideal to run that much between the wickets at the back end. We should have been hitting boundaries.

We didn't see the turn throughout the tri-series, but with the lack of dew, and with the wind, it probably turned a little bit more in the second innings. It was nice to be bowling second with the conditions we got. Again, our spinners did a terrific job."
