Yorkshire, put into bat first, got off to a solid start, courtesy of their openers. Jonny Bairstow looked in good touch at the top, scoring a fluent 29 off 19 balls. In the middle overs, James Wharton kept the momentum going with a steady 33 off 23. However, the real boost came in the death overs as Jordan Thompson launched a brutal assault, smashing an unbeaten 37 off just 11 deliveries. His late fireworks powered Yorkshire to a competitive total of 200/6.
With the ball, Derbyshire had their moments. They were slightly expensive with the new ball, tightened things up in the middle, but faltered at the death. Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar and Patrick Brown were the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets each.
In reply, Derbyshire came out all guns blazing. The openers set the tone with a commanding 115-run partnership for the first wicket. Aneurin Donald was simply sensational, blasting 85 off just 30 balls, virtually sealing the game inside the powerplay.
In the middle order, Wayne Madsen (38*) and Ross Whiteley (29*) played composed knocks to take Derbyshire home with nearly three overs to spare.
A dominant performance with the bat sees Derbyshire clinch a 7-wicket win โ their third victory of the season โ and a much-needed boost in the North Group standings.
