That's all from this rain-hit game, folks! For now, it's me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of the scorer/analyst Asraj Khan. CHEERS!
1:07 AM IST, 8:37 PM Local Time: Back-to-back enthralling contests at the Kennington Oval today! The women’s game between Essex and Surrey ended in a tie, while the men’s clash also went down to the last ball, with Essex holding their nerve to claim their first win of the season. Essex win by 4 wickets in a rain-curtailed game and put a brake on the 5-match winning streak of Surrey.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Surrey lost Dominic Sibley (1) cheaply in the second over. However, Will Jacks (20) and Jason Roy (30) scored rapidly from the outset and laid a solid foundation for Surrey in the shortened game.

Essex bagged wickets at regular intervals but leaked runs as well. Sam Curran (25) and Laurie Evans (18) took charge during the middle phase of the innings, contributing valuable cameos, while Tom Curran (27*) and Chris Jordan (10*) made sure they finished on a high score.

Mohammad Amir (2/36) and Luc Benkenstein (2/23) bagged a couple of wickets each for Essex, while Matthew Critchley and Paul Walter chipped in with one wicket apiece.

In reply, Essex came out with clear intent, showcasing aggressive batting from the outset. Michael-Kyle Pepper blazed away with a fiery 36 off just 15 balls, hammering six boundaries and two sixes, laying a solid platform. Paul Walter then took charge, producing a game-defining innings of 55 off 26 deliveries, peppered with five sixes, and maintained Essex’s momentum despite wickets falling around him. However, Walter failed to stay till the end and fell prey to Sam Curran in the 10th over—a crucial stage of the match.

Charlie Allison (15 off 12) and Matthew Critchley (14* off 6) kept the scoreboard ticking with crucial cameos, with the latter holding his nerve to hit the winning stroke on the final ball of the match and seal the game for Essex.

Surrey bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Adam Zampa being the lone bright spot, claiming 3 wickets for just 14 runs in his 3 overs. Sam Curran also picked up 2 wickets, but leaked 35 runs.

4 FOUR RUNS! PHEW! Essex win a last-ball thriller and register their first victory in 10 games in the ongoing T20 Blast. Curran bowls it full and just outside the off-stump. Critchley opens the face of the bat a tad and squeezes it nicely towards deep backward point for a boundary to seal the game.
1 needed off the final ball. Curran is taking his time to set the field. Remember, a tie is a tie, as there is no Super Over in the T20 Blast’s league-stage games.
11.5 S Curran to M Critchley
2 The scores are level! Fuller and on the pads. Critchley flicks it to short fine leg, where Topley dives to his left and parries it away from him, allowing the batters to scamper through for the second run.
3 needed off 2 balls.
