2 AM IST & 9:30 PM Local Time: The miserable run at this venue continues for Hampshire as Somerset register a commanding 15-run win! An all round performance by the Somerset Skipper, Lewis Gregory!
Hampshire skipper James Vince won the toss and chose to field, striking early as Tom Banton fell for just 4. Will Smeed and Tom Kohler-Cadmore counter-punched with a quick 59-run stand, giving Somerset early momentum.
Kohler-Cadmore was dismissed for 29 by James Fuller, but Smeed anchored the innings brilliantly with a 68 off 37 — the top score of the innings. A sudden collapse followed, with Somerset slipping from 116/2 to 127/6, losing four wickets for just 11 runs.
Just when Hampshire were on top, Lewis Gregory and Lewis Goldsworthy staged a record-breaking fightback. Their 82-run partnership for the 7th wicket — the highest in Somerset’s T20 history — revived the innings. Gregory’s explosive finish helped Somerset storm past 200, finishing on a commanding 209/7 in a dramatic turnaround.
In reply, Hampshire began their chase in style as James Vince and Lhuan-dre Pretorius laid a solid foundation with a 74-run opening stand. Pretorius was the first to depart for a well-made 37, falling to Ben Green. Skipper James Vince, however, continued to impress with some exquisite stroke play, notching up a fluent 54 off just 30 deliveries and emerging as the top scorer for his side.
As the chase progressed, the asking rate kept climbing, putting pressure on the Hampshire batters. Dewald Brevis injected hope with a fiery cameo — 36 off just 16 balls — but his lone effort wasn't enough. Somerset skipper Lewis Gregory led from the front, rotating his bowlers smartly and maintaining control in the death overs. The bowlers held their nerve when it mattered most, sealing a solid 17-run win for Somerset in what turned out to be a clinical all-round performance.
W TOP EDGE AND TAKEN! A wicket for the Somerset skipper to end the match. Full around off. Dawson swings his bat across the line. Gets a top edge which goes straight up in the air. Goldsworthy at backward point, calls for it and takes a comfortable catch. Somerset win by 17 runs!
19.5 L Gregory to L Dawson
6 SIXXX!! Lovely shot by Dawson. Banged it short into the wicket outside off. Dawson throws his hands at it. Cuts it away aerially which clears the deep point fence for a maximum.
19.4 L Gregory to B Howell
1 Banged it short into the wicket around off. Howell flat bats it to long on for a single.
