That's it from this encounter. Thank you for tuning in. This is Arijit Kundu, signing off on behalf of co-commentator Anirudh Modi and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Bye fellas!
1:46 AM IST and 9:16 PM Local Time: An outstanding game of cricket as the two sides are separated by a solitary run. A humdinger of a clash in this fixture as Middlesex beat Essex at their home.
Chasing a tricky target, Dean Elgar and Michael-Kyle Pepper, the Essex openers got off to a flying start inside the powerplay before the introduction of Zafar Gohar broke the stand with 52 runs already in five overs. His partner fell on the immediate next delivery before a 54-run stand negated the opposition bowlers for quite some time.
Paul Walter struck 30 off 21 balls with Jordan Coz at the other end. But both batters fell after the halfway mark. The Essex side reached 128 by the 16th over before the fifth wicket fell, leaving Luc Benkenstein and Charlie Allison to overhaul 34 runs in the last 23 balls. The pair struggled, adding eleven runs in the next couple of overs before a couple of wides and fours each in the penultimate over curtailed the equation to ten off the final over. Eventually, the Essex side fell short by a run as they failed to get six runs off the final couple of deliveries. Essex won the toss and decided to bowl first — but the Middlesex batters came out with intent! The opening duo set the tone with a handy 47-run stand before Eskinazi was sent back by Mohammad Amir. That didn’t slow things down, though, as Williamson and Holden stitched together a fluent 61-run partnership, taking the score to a promising 108/1 by the 11th over. But just when Middlesex looked set for a big total, Thain broke through with the wicket of Williamson, who had made a well-compiled 53. And from there, it all went downhill. Essex’s spinners tightened the screws, triggering a dramatic collapse as Middlesex went from 108/1 to being bowled out for just 161.
Amir led the bowling effort with a superb three-wicket haul. Luc Benkenstein and Simon Harmer chipped in with two wickets each, while Matthew Critchley and Paul Walter picked up one apiece — wrapping things up nicely for Essex.

2 Middlesex win by a solitary run! Short of the wicket, on the off stump, slaps it to deep cover and a safe throw back to the keeper ensures that Middlesex pull off a thriller!
Four required off the final ball. It came down to the final ball in a nail-biter of a contest.
19.5 T Helm to N Thain
2 Another couple! A boundary needed off the final ball! Back of a length delivery, on the off stump, slower one, Thain miscues his pull to mid-wicket but it lands safely to allow for a couple to be taken.
19.4 T Helm to N Thain
2 Thain is off the mark! Full length delivery, on the stumps, flicks it past short fine, but the sweeper comes across to cut it off for a couple. 6 needed in 2.
