2:02 AM IST, 9:32 PM Local Time: Sussex are skittled for 162 runs and Surrey win by 48 runs - extending their winning streak to four matches in the ongoing T20 Blast.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Will Jacks came out firing and gave Surrey a blistering start. The right-hander hammered a quickfire 43 off just 20 deliveries, adding 52 runs for the opening wicket alongside Dominic Sibley. However, Tymal Mills broke the momentum by removing the in-form Jacks to give Sussex their first breakthrough. Jason Roy followed soon after, departing for a duck and failing to make an impact with the bat. Sam Curran (38) joined Dominic Sibley (45) at the crease, and the pair kept the scoreboard ticking at a steady rate. They put together a partnership of over 60 runs but couldnāt see it through, as both batters were dismissed within the space of an over. Laurie Evans could only muster 3 runs, but the cameos from Tom Curran (20) and OFM Sykes (44*) propelled Surrey to a hefty 210/6 in 20 overs. Nathan McAndrew bagged a couple of wickets for Sussex, while Brad Currie, James Coles, Tymal Mills, and Henry Crocombe celebrated a solitary wicket. In reply, Sussex had a dreadful start, losing three wickets in quick succession inside the first three overs ā George Thomas (1), Daniel Hughes (7), and James Coles (4) all fell cheaply. However, Tom Clark and John Simpson (21) steadied the innings with a solid partnership, led by Clarkās brisk 45-run knock. The duo added over 60 runs for the fourth wicket, but just as things began to settle, Mitchell Santner struck twice in his first two overs, removing both set batters and plunging Sussex into deep trouble. Danny Lamb (49) provided some late entertainment with a spirited knock, but lacked support from the other end as Sussex kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Eventually, they were bowled out for 162 in 19.5 overs. Reece Topley and Mitchell Santner bagged three wickets each for Surrey. Tom Curran chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Chris Jordan contributed one wicket to the downfall.
