2:28 AM IST, 9:58 PM local time: Nottinghamshire Outlaws defeat Birmingham Bears (Warwickshire) by 6 wickets in a last-ball thriller.

Looking back at a match that is decided off the final ball, it is hard to point out which moment actually proved to be the point of difference. But when the Bears dissect tonight's performance, their returns off the powerplay in the batting innings will certainly come under the scanner.

They made 38/1 in the first 6 overs. We told you at the mid-innings interval that it was below the average at this venue for the season. They did accelerate post it. Latham and Mousley stitched together a 116-run partnership off just 69 balls. Then, Moeen Ali and Ed Barnhard played effervescent cameos at the back end to propel them over 200. Alas, it did not prove to be enough.

Skipper Joe Clarke set the foundation for the run chase with his 18-ball-30. Freddie McCann impressed too. His 17-ball-32 was studded with flamboyant strokes. But it was "Moores' magic" that took the team past the finish line. Tim Moores not only paced the innings well but also made our jaws drop to the floor with his flat, missile-like strikes over the cover region. Eventually, it was his six off the last ball won them the match. Lyndon James deserves a special mention too; for he played the perfect foil. His half-century might not be talked about as much as the other three individual fifties scored in this match will be. But he deserves a pat on his back for holding up one end which allowed the others to go slam-bang.

Among the bowlers, two finger spinners impressed. Debutant Farhan Ahmed finished with 1/32 — he bowled three overs in the powerplay — and Liam Patterson-White finished with 3/37 — that is after he got hit for three sixes by Moeen Ali in his final over.

6 FULL TOSS! WHACKED FOR SIX! MOORES DOES IT FOR NOTTINGHAMSHIRE! THE OUTLAWS HAVE HUNTED THE BEARS DOWN AT THEIR HOME! Barnhard went searching for the yorker and for the umpteenth time, missed it. Moores unfurled a clean strike over long-off.
Field comes up. The keeper comes up to the stumps. They are taking forever to plan out the last ball. Tension is palpable.
19.5 E Barnard to D Sams
1 Attempted yorker again, tailing into the middle pole. Sams hits it to long-on, runs one, contemplates a second and then decides against it. Scores level. One ball to go.
Barnhard is wiping the ball with his shirt. It must be wet? Is he finding it hard to grip it? That might explain why he hasn't been able to land a yorker yet.
