02:26 AM IST & 09:56 PM Local Time | What a thrilling game with Northants ending up victorious by 6 runs. Ben Sanderson the hero for the side as he ended up conceding only 8 runs (one leg-bye) while defending 15 runs off the final over.
Just like Northants, Derbyshire were off to a bad start with David Willey removing Aneurin Donald for a duck. David Lloyd was also dismissed for a duck with Willey getting his second wicket courtesy a superb catch at first slip from Ricardo Vasconcelos. Caleb Jewell got a few boundaries after that but Derbyshire fell into deeper malaise with Wayne Madsen departing in the last over of the Powerplay.
Similar to how Ravi Bopara and David Willey re-built the innings for Northants, the duo of Jewell and Samit Patel did the same for Derbyshire. After staying behind the rate for a while, the tide turned towards Derbyshire in the 12th over when Lloyd Pope conceded 15 runs. Eventually, Jewell and Samit got to their respective fifties off 35 and 33 balls in the 15th over. Jewell continued to provide fireworks until Luke Procter had him caught at long-on after the Aussie had made 71 runs.
With the help of some luck, Derbyshire managed 12 runs off the 18th over with the equation coming down to 29 off 12 balls. The batting side did manage 14 runs but Ben Sanderson defended 15 off the final over with ease. The wily seamer ended up conceding only eight runs with six coming off the final ball as Northants triumphed by 6 runs. In contrast, Zak Chappell gave away 24 runs off the 20th over in Northants' innings while the team as a whole ended up scoring 67 runs off the last four overs which proved to be decisive.
