10.20 PM IST, 05.50 PM Local Time: That's it. Northamptonshire registered a commanding 5-wicket win over Leicestershire. Chasing down a modest target of 123 with 4 balls to spare at Grace Road. It was a clinical bowling performance followed by a calm and composed chase led by the experienced Ravi Bopara.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Leicestershire never got going and were bowled out for just 122 in 20 overs. Their top order collapsed dramatically, with David Willey and Ben Sanderson wreaking havoc early on. Willey (3/20) dismissed Patel, Budinger, and captain Kimber within his first three overs, while Sanderson (4/15) ran through the middle order. Leicestershire were reduced to 27/6 within the first 6 overs. Logan van Beek (42 off 42) and Tom Scriven (23 off 19) offered some resistance with a valuable partnership of 55 for the 8th wicket. Roman Walker also chipped in with a handy 19, but the innings ended at 122. Chasing 123, Northamptonshire had a shaky start, losing Vasconcelos and Willey inside the powerplay. Matt Salisbury struck early, removing Vasconcelos, while Logan van Beek got the big wicket of skipper Willey. The pressure intensified when Breetzke (23 off 33) and Zaib fell in quick succession to Roman Walker, leaving NOR at 75/4 in the 14th over. But Ravi Bopara held his nerve and anchored the innings with a mature knock of 46 off 40 balls*, showing his experience and class. He stitched a crucial 46-run stand with George Bartlett, who played a quickfire cameo of 26 off 17 to swing the momentum back in NORās favour.
Despite a few hiccups, Northamptonshire crossed the line with 4 balls and 5 wickets to spare, finishing at 123/5 in 19.2 overs. Leicestershireās bowlers, especially van Beek (2/21) and Walker (2/20), tried hard to defend the low total, but it wasnāt enough.
