That's it from our coverage of the South Group fixture in the T20 Blast between Essex and Somerset. Ninaad Dixit here signing off alongside scorer/analyst Asraj Khan. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.
Matthew Critchley (Player of the Match): "I've put quite a bit of work into it with the batting coach about how I wanna play. It was nice for it to come off today. Pretty disappointing performance but good to be back out at Chelmsford. On a personal note, delighted but yeah a tough day. When you are not playing it gives you a chance to right a few wrongs. We will have a little debrief because we've not played 2 of our best games. We've let ourselves down this weekend."
10:56 PM IST, 6:26 PM Local Time: A comprehensive victory for Somerset over Essex in their South Group fixture of the T20 Blast! Will Smeed leading the charge with an unbeaten 81 off 54 balls to take the visitors to the 8- wicket win.
Essex won the toss and decided to bat first. A spirited bowling performance from Somerset held them back at 148 in 19.1 overs. Matthew Critchley (54) and Dean Elgar (50) helped the visitors to get to a somewhat respectable total.
The Somerset openers Smeed and Tom Lammonby got them off to a perfect start with Smeed taking the attacking initiative getting to his half century in 25 balls. Lammonby played the anchor and also got a life when Michael-Kyle Pepper dropped him off Mohammad Amir when Somerset needed 90 off 88 balls.
Lammonby added 18 more runs to his score and was dismissed by Critchley in the 9th over but the result was almost decided as the opening pair added 96 runs at that stage. Tom Kohler-Cadmore at number 3 was sent back by Luc Benkenstein with skipper Harmer taking a fine catch.
Tom Abell remained unbeaten on 10 with Smeed hitting the winning run in the 16th over finishing unbeaten at 81 off 54 balls with 11 fours and a maximum. Simon Harmer (0/12), Shane Snater (0/23), Critchley (1/26) and Benkenstein (1/18) tried their best but there were never enough runs on the board.
