That's a wrap from us! The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 has concluded, leaving behind a trail of record-breaking performances, including the most runs ever scored in a single edition of the tournament.
Mumbai proved to be too strong for Madhya Pradesh in the Final. Despite a spirited effort from Rajat Patidar and his team, they couldn’t match the dominance of the Mumbai powerhouse.
Mumbai have reclaimed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, emerging as champions for the second time! Congratulations to them on a well-deserved victory!
For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Karthik Raj who, along with scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur brought all the actions of this mouth-watering final. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE👋
The winning moment for Mumbai 🤩👇
Shreyas Iyer now collects the trophy from the BCCI President, Roger Binny. He joins his teammates. Shreyas hands it over to the youngster and joins the team for photographs. The celebrations begin as Mumbai are the Champions of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25!
Shreyas Iyer (Mumbai Captain): "(Regarding the move to open with a spinner) There were two right-handers and we experienced the same thing against Vidarbha. Atharva Ankolekar gave away only five runs and that set us up. (On promoting Ankolekar up the order) We just wanted to have the left-hander and right-hander combination going.
The two lads (Ankolekar and Shedge) played fearlessly, kudos to them. We have created such a mindset in the team that it is very positive. We think each of them is a match-winner. Want to say one more thing, whenever Chandu sir comes in front of us, we lose. Happy to break it now."
Ajinkya Rahane (Player of the Tournament): "I think as a team we were really confident. I thought we bowled really well. 175 in this kind of a wicket under the lights, we were confident to chase it down. We know the history of this ground in terms of chasing so 175 was a chaseable target.
(On Suryansh Shedge) He has been sensational for us. I have watched him closely in the nets and he has played so many cameos in this tournament. I am really happy for him."
Player of the Tournament: Ajinkya Rahane
Suryansh Shedge (Player of the Match): "As soon as I got into the squad, I knew this was going to be my role. Spoke to a few seniors and practiced according to that. I am a very competitive person, that is my nature and it is Mumbai cricket culture as well. It is always a delight to win games for your team."
Player of the Match: Suryansh Shedge
Rajat Patidar (Madhya Pradesh Captain): "Yeah, this was not the result we wanted. Very happy with the boys how they played but hard luck.
I think we were 20-25 runs short at the halfway stage of the match.
Yeah there was 4-5 guys who are playing for the first time. I am happy that they are gaining experience.
I just love the fans out here not just for me but also supporting the players. Thank you for coming and supporting."
