Desert Vipers and Dubai Capitals have finished in the first and second position in the points table with 14 and 12 points respectively. Now they will lock horns in the Qualifier-1 on 5th February, Wednesday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Darpan Tikiya and Aditya Agarwal and our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Good night.
Qais Ahmad (Player of the Match): "First of all, thanks to the almighty. Thanks to my family, my mother, my big brother, who always support me and help me prepare. When you play with legendary cricketers like Sam Billings, you always get confidence. He always backs me. The pitch was good for spin. I just had to put the ball in right areas. I particularly enjoyed Sam Curran's wicket."
Player of the Match: Qais Ahmad
Sam Billings (Dubai Capitals Captain):"The win was clinical. We are glad to finish the game early against a good side. A pleasing victory.
You know it's hard to come here and play spinners in Sharjah. Even if the spinners go for runs, they go for the attacking mode. That's the key for them. Yes two good sides have finished on top two and I think we played well.
We will play the same opposition and I think that's a new challenge on a new day. On my personal game, I think I played well in Australia. Shai batted brilliantly. Overall a dominating victory will give us a lot of confidence."
Lockie Ferguson (Desert Vipers captain): "These things happen. I will still back the boys. The lack of partnerships was the issue. We have been outstanding for the whole tournament. A little blip at the end would not effect us too much. Hopefully, Max (Holden) will be good to go in a couple of days time."
Dispatch of the Day: Shai Hope
Shai Hope gets the green belt from Sam Billings for becoming the leading run-getter of the tournament so far.
Time for the post-match presentations.
11:12 PM IST and 9:42 PM Local Time | Dubai Capitals have registered a comfortable victory over Desert Vipers. They reached the 138-run target losing just a wicket and with 17 balls to spare.
Coming in to bat first, Desert Vipers lost Azam Khan and Alex Hales for cheap scores but they came back as the pair of Dan Lawrence and Samuel Curran stitched a good partnership between them. They added 45 runs between them before Qais Ahmad got the better of Sam Curran on 28. Daniel Lawrence was the top scorer for the Vipers scoring 44 but became the victim of Qais Ahmad. The Afghan leggie took two more wickets of Adam Hose and Michael Jones. For the Vipers, only Hasaranga reached the double digit mark in the lower middle order and that rattled them to 137. Qais Ahmad was the star of the show picking up 4 wickets for just 25 runs. Obed McCoy took 3 wickets for just 22 runs from his 4 overs. Farhan Khan, Dushmantha Chameera and Sikandar Raza took a wicket apiece. Adam Rossington was sent in as a Super-Sub for Obed McCoy. Rossington gave the early onslaught and attacked the new ball bowlers of the Vipers. His attacking 27 helped the Capitals to reach 50 in 6 overs. Rossington was dismissed by David Payne, who got the only wicket of the innings. After Rossington's dismissal, two in-form batters, Shai Hope and Gulbadin Naib took the onus. They did the important job of playing out Wanindu Hasaranga. Gulbadin Naib took the role of aggressor and Hope was at the other end playing the anchor's role. They took on the pacers and started to cruise towards the victory. Gulbadin Naib remained unbeaten on 55 off 31 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Shai Hope scored yet another fifty and he too remained unbeaten on 52 off 54 balls with 4 fours and one maximum. Stay tuned for the post-match presentations.
