That's all from the season opener of the ILT20 2025. It was a thrilling match and if that is any indication of things to come we could be in for a ride. Time for us to pull the plugs as well, this is Sourabh Agrawal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Aditya and scorer Paras Yadav. Good night!
Gulbadin Naib (POTM) : "It's a big league, so you have to be focused. I enjoyed my bowling today to be honest. I think the target we posted was a touch short but the way Olly gave us the start brought us into the game. It is sticking a little bit in the surface, it is not easy for the batters to play their shots."
Player of the Match - Gulbadin Naib
Sikandar Raza (Dubai Capitals Captain): "Rest of the team did a fantastic job, I was trying to hold my nerve and see which bowler would give me the best chance and luckily every bowler that came in did the job. To be honest, the first thing I said that it was not a 180 wicket, anything around 150-160 would take a lot of effort but I told my boys that we can get them for 110 as well if we stick to a nice test match length. Olly gave us those wickets in the powerplay and the others who bowled then did a fantastic job too. The game was running away from us and that is why I decided to take the timeout early. I was contemplating towards the end, trusted my experienced guys first and then I knew a couple of dot balls in the end and the pressure would pile up and the panic would set it. I was amazed at the way he (Farhan Khan) held his nerve and can't be more proud."
Nicholas Pooran ( MI Emirates Captain) : "Yeah, wonderful night and a wonderful game. Yeah, I think the fast bowlers really bowled well for us to keep them around 135. I think the pitch was a tricky to bat on. This is just a start for him (Akeal Hosein), I hope has long way to go. We didn't get the job done, we should have been there till the end."

Time for the post-match presentations.
23:16 Local Time, 00:46 IST: The season opener belongs to Dubai Capitals who hold their nerves and get the win by the smallest possible margin and look at the delight on their faces, Pollard and Pooran on the other hand look numb. They were down and out with 3 overs to go in the match but they have fought back incredibly through some clever bowling, smart captaincy but more importantly some calm and clear execution under pressure.

An incredible last over from the local man, 20-year old Farhan Khan who held his nerve to defend 13 off the last 6 against the mighty Kieron Pollard and got his side home. But what preceded that was stuff of supreme excellence from two much more experienced men, Gulbadin Naib and Olly Stone. Just 6 runs along with 2 wickets in the two overs brought the Capitals back into the contest from a position of despair.

Chasing 134, MI Emirates were in big trouble as their top-order was blown away against the new ball. Olly Stone struck twice along with a wicket each for McCoy and Farhan which saw the Emirates slip ton 23/4 inside the fifth over.

Nicholas Pooran and Akeal Hosein got together and steadied the ship for the Emirates. They batted sensibly, taking the ones and twos on offer and putting the loose ball away as the partnership grew. They launched some big shots into the stands on regular occasions too as the Emirates looked set to get to the target.

Gulbadin Naib broke the partnership when it was on 79 in the 16th over and that opened the door for the Capitals. However, Pooran was still at the crease and he looked determined to see his side home as he got to his fifty. With 19 needed off 18 and Pooran and Pollard at the crease, you would close your eyes and back the Emirates to win it on a canter but it was not to be.

Pooran got out to Gulbadin who struck again in the same over and then Olly Stone followed it with a 1-run over displaying some exceptional back of the length bowling on a slow deck.

Pollard was left with 13 to get off the final over against the 20-year old Farhan and he could only get 11 as the Capitals sealed a thrilling win.
