So, that's it from this encounter as Surrey defeat Somerset by five wickets and gain valuable points in the ongoing 2025 T20 Blast. This is me, Arijit Kundu, taking your leave on behalf of co-commentator Deepak Prakash and scorer Sachin Yadav. TA-TA!
Matt Henry: "Yeah, cheers mate. Glad to be back here, and open the campaign here. Really pleased with our win.

Yeah, exactly, no better chance than against a full house in Surrey. Yeah, we had to create pressure on top, and the wickets were crucial.

That is the speciality about this group. Riley with the pace was outstanding. For him, to get wickets and curb runs, that is a great combo. Yeah, thanks mate."
1:44 AM IST and 9:14 PM Local Time: Somerset douse the Surrey side in a high-octane clash and open their winning account in the ensuing 2025 T20 Blast. What looked like a tricky total half an hour back, ended up being a cakewalk with Ben Green taking the charge in the slog overs.

Chasing a tricky total, Will Smeed and Tom Banton got off to a decent start inside the powerplay, gathering 45 runs against the seamers before the wicketkeeper-batter lost his wicket on the final ball of the phase. Subsequently, Smeed switched gears, trying to take on the opposition, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore joined in with him, too. But the latter fell cheaply at the cusp of the innings' halfway mark, making way for a flurry of wickets.

Somerset's middle order faltered against the blend of pace and spin, with some tight fielding raising the bar for Surrey. Although Thomas Rew and Lewis Gregory got out in single digits, Tom Abell's anchoring 22-ball 29* allowed Ben Green to switch gears against Chris Jordan and Sam Curran in the 16th and 17th over. Despite the run-a-ball equation after the 16th over, the 35-run partnership for the sixth wicket between the two eased the chase in 17.5 overs.

Earlier, Surrey were invited to bat first and struggled early, losing both Dominic Sibley and Ollie Pope to lethal bowling from Matt Henry. While Jason Roy and Sam Curran tried to steady the innings, the skipper couldn’t convert his start and was dismissed for 22 off 23 balls.

Roy, however, looked in fine touch. He found the boundary consistently, taking the attack to the Somerset bowlers. But despite his valiant effort, partners kept falling at the other end. The South African-born explosive knock came to an end just 8 runs short of a well-deserved century in the final over. With the ball, Henry and Riley Meredith were outstanding for Somerset, picking up three wickets apiece.

Stay tuned if we can help you with the player's thoughts.

17.5 S Curran to T Abell
4 Back of a length and down the leg stump line. Abell helps it down the area fine of long leg and these are also the winning runs. Abell punishes the poor delivery to penetrate the vacant area and finish things off with 13 balls left.
17.4 S Curran to B Green
1 Pitched up and well outside the off. Driven towards extra for a quick single. Chance of a run out as a shy was made but no luck.
17.3 S Curran to B Green
2 Back of a length and outside the fifth stump. Once again, pulls it towards right of long on and the fielder from deep mid wicket stretches across and saves a potential four. Keeps it down to a couple of runs.
17.2 S Curran to B Green
4 Ben Green is in no mood to waste time. Back of a length and plenty of room outside the off from Sam Curran. The batter waits and smacks across the line out off the bat's middle for a four over deep mid wicket. One bounce four from Ben.
