02:15 AM IST & 09:46 PM Local Time | A pretty one-sided affair as Hampshire wrap up a 106-run victory. This is the 3rd-biggest win for Hampshire in T20 cricket. Safe to say they have set the standards for this season.
Chasing 231 for victory, Essex got off to the worst possible start as Dean Elgar was run-out off just the second delivery of the innings. Adam Rossington had a couple of lives with dropped catches at fine-leg and deep square-leg but he was superbly caught by Liam Dawson off James Fuller's bowling at the fag end of the Powerplay.
Thereafter, the pair of Michael Pepper and Paul Walter came together to stitch a decent partnership even as the former had a fortuitous initial stage with a few boundaries flying off the outside-edge through third. Dewald Brevis dropped a catch as well in the 12th over but he took one off the very next delivery to see Walter back to the hut off Scott Currie's bowling.
A few deliveries later, Currie superbly deceived Matt Critchley to have him caught at short extra-cover while Liam Dawson picked up a couple of wickets in the next with Essex losing a flurry of wickets. The collapse continued with Benny Howell getting rid of young Luc Benkenstein. Hampshire legend, Dawson added two more scalps with the wickets of Shane Snater and Simon Harmer in the 15th over. Eventually, Currie had Mohammad Amir caught superbly at long-on by Brevis as Essex were rolled over for a mere 124!
W THAT'S THAT! CURRIE GETS THE LAST WICKET! Full delivery, Amir backs away and lifts it straight down the ground but Dewald Brevis runs across to his right from long-on to take a cracking catch. Pretty much sums up Hampshire's dominance on the night!
16.1 S Currie to Cook
1 Full and angling in from over the wicket, Cook attempts to go over extra-cover but he gets a thick outside-edge to fly through covers. Single taken.
