Earlier in the day, the Rangpur Riders were eliminated from the tournament by the Khulna Tigers in the Eliminator. Later in the evening, the defending champions, Fortune Barishal, secured their place in the Final with a commanding victory over the Chittagong Kings

We're down to the final two games of this season's Bangladesh Premier League:

Eliminator - Chittagong Kings vs Khulna Tigers (5th February, Wednesday)

Final - Fortune Barishal vs [The Winner of the Eliminator] (7th February, Friday)
Tamim Iqbal (Fortune Barishal Captain): "Oh yeah definitely. I couldn't ask for me. I thought the wicket was brilliant from the beginning. I couldn't have ask for anything more from the players.

Kyle Mayers was just fantastic with the new ball. We required early wickets and he gave that for us. They got a couple of crucial partnerships but it did not hurt us much. The wicket was so good that you expect such kind of partnerships.

(On Mohammad Ali) No no it was not a new find. He was signed 6 months back. I saw him doing well in PSL and that's why we signed him. He was with us in the squad but unfortunately had to leave us because he was in the Test team for Pakistan. Whenever he was available he came back.

Yeah definitely. This was the message from my end to the team. I told them, this is just another game because if you start thinking that it's a qualifier game and if you win, you make it to the Finals then the nerve comes in. We wanted to be on top from ball one. We kept it simple. This is where the experience comes in.

I thought the way we are jelling in the team is just fantastic and we have another very important game coming up. We have to stay focused for the next 2-3 days and wait for our opponents."
Mohammad Ali (Player of the Match): "Well first of all, I want to thank the almighty. This was a crucial game for us and I am very happy to contribute for my team in such a stage.

Yeah yeah. From the last three years, I have been working with my coach. All those correction in my bowling was all because of my coach.

Well I was trying to bowl some variations. T20 cricket demands variations and I wanted to bowl accordingly.

You can say that, picking up wickets always gives you confidence and keeps your moral high."
Player of the Match: Mohammad Ali
Mohammad Mithun (Chittagong Kings Captain): "Yeah definitely. Barishal are a very good side and we all know that. Tonight, we did not bring in our A Game and we know that.

In the powerplay we lost too many wickets. Shamim batted really well but it was not enough for us.

Yeah yeah definitely. Throughout the tournament we have played really well as a team. I am confident that as a team we will fightback strongly.

Yeah the bowling unit have done really well in the past. I am sure that in the next game they will make a strong comeback."
9:16 PM IST & 9:46 PM Local Time| There it is! We have our first finalist of the Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 as Fortune Barishal secure their spot in the final for the second consecutive year. A dominant performance in Qualifier 1 against the Chittagong Kings, with the Tamim Iqbal-led side sealing a comprehensive 9-wicket victory with 18 balls to spare. A clinical display by Barishal as they march into the grand finale!

Earlier in the day, Tamim Iqbal won the toss and opted to field, asking the Chittagong Kings to bat first. The Kings' batting got off to a disastrous start as they lost 4 wickets inside the powerplay, putting them under immediate pressure.

The pair of Shamim Hossain and Parvez Hossain Emon steadied the ship for the Chittagong Kings. Their vital 77-run partnership for the 5th wicket helped the momentum shift back in favor of the Mohammad Mithun-led side, providing some much-needed stability after the early setbacks. Shamim Hossain (79 off 47) was the lone fighter for the Kings!

Fortune Barishal pulled things back brilliantly in the death overs. Mohammad Ali (5/24) was simply sensational in his final over, picking up 4 wickets and completely dismantling the Kings' lower order. He became only the second bowler in BPL history to claim a five-wicket haul on debut. The Chittagong Kings were restricted to a total of 149/9 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Fortune Barishal made the most of the batting-friendly conditions. The openers, Tamim Iqbal and Towhid Hridoy, started cautiously but steadily built a strong foundation. The duo stitched together a 55-run opening stand. However, the partnership was eventually broken in the 9th over when Khaled Ahmed provided the breakthrough for the Chittagong Kings.

Chittagong Kings failed to build pressure and restrict the flow of runs as Towhid Hridoy (82* off 56) and Dawid Malan (34* off 22) stitched together a match-winning, unbeaten 95-run partnership off just 52 balls.

Fortune Barishal not only clinched a victory in the Qualifier-1 with a dominant 9-wicket victory but also secured their spot in the BPL 2024-25 Final. Meanwhile, the Chittagong Kings will get another shot at glory in Qualifier-2 against the Khulna Tigers. Stay tuned for the Post-Match Presentation!
