That’s it for our coverage, folks! The Rangpur Riders had the last laugh over the Sylhet Strikers and ended 2024 on a high note. There’s a one-day break in the tournament, with matches set to resume on January 2, 2025. For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of Arjun Bhalla and Yogesh Kumar. HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🥳
Nurul Hasan (Winning Captain, Rangpur Riders): "You know, the wicket was a little bit of sticky at the start, but the team pulled off things in the fag-end.
The bowlers bowled really well, especially Nahid Rana and Khushdil Shah. He (Nahid) is really quick. I remember taking on Shaun Tait back in 2014, he is a bit like him."
Nahid Rana (Player of the Match): "I'm feeling very happy as this is the first time I’ve been awarded Player of the Match in the BPL. There’s a lot of hard work and training behind the scenes to maintain the rhythm.I try to perform well for every franchise that picks me in their team."
Player of the Match: Nahid Rana
7:58 PM IST, 8:28 PM Local Time: A strong comeback from the Rangpur Riders in the latter half of the innings saw them secure back-to-back wins, defeating the Sylhet Strikers by 34 runs.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, Rangpur Riders got off to a shaky start as they lost Steven Taylor (12), Alex Hales (6), and Saif Hassan (4) cheaply. Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah steadied the ship for a while but Shinwari trapped the latter for 21 runs and broke the partnership. Nurul Hasan joined forces in the middle, and the skipper delivered a quickfire 41 off 24 balls to inject momentum into the innings. Mahedi Hasan (16) played a handy cameo at the tail end, while Iftikhar remained unbeaten on 47 off 42 balls, helping the Riders post 155/6 in their 20 overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Al-Amin Hossain bagged a couple of wickets each for Strikers, while Reece Topley and Samiullah Shinwari celebrated a solitary wicket. In response to 155 runs, Sylhet Strikers lost George Munsey (2) and Paul Stirling (6) cheaply inside the powerplay. Zakir Hasan scored rapidly but not for long, departing after a cameo of 18 runs. Rony Talukdar and Jaker Ali paired up in the middle and kept the scoreboard moving at a decent pace. The Strikers seemed in total control at one stage, but the game took a dramatic turn when Talukdar (41) and Jaker (24) departed at a crucial juncture, triggering a massive collapse. The Sylhet-based franchise fell like nine pins and eventually were restricted to 121/9 in 20 overs. Nahid Rana proved too hot to handle for the Strikers and removed 4 wickets in his 4-over spell. Mohammad Saifuddin and Khushdil Shah bagged a couple of wickets each, while Kamrul Islam contributed one wicket to the downfall.
