That's it from our coverage of the T20I series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand from Dambulla. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Pritam Dey and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
LOWEST TOTALS DEFENDED IN T20Is: 96 - West Indies v Ireland at Kingston, 2014 106 - Bangladesh v Nepal at Kingstown, 2024 108 - New Zealand v Sri Lanka at Dambulla, TONIGHT*
The Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka and Mitchell Santner both collect the series winning check and the trophy together. The result 1-1!
Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain): "At the change of the innings I asked the guys to fight as a unit. We just talked about taking wickets and build pressure. We did the job well. We would have liked a few more runs but it was a tricky surface. Lockie and the seamers bowled extremely well and then GP at the end. Lockie is a world class bowler. Its not easy to face him. His job was to get a few wickets in the middle and break the rhythm. It spins a lot here. Looking forward to the one-days now. Slightly slower wickets than we are used to back home. We thought the par score was probably more. We have got a few days. Its nice to see it spin for once, it doesn't do much in New Zealand."
Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka Captain): "Yes, I agree that it was the game for us to lose. I think full credit also goes to them because they bowled really well and also fielded brilliantly. We could have done better. Well, today we struggled against spin. We should have bowled better and make full utilization of the conditions. Yeah off course, I think we have a settled team now in this format. These kind of games happen and I have full trust on my team. (On the ODI Series) Yeah, I think the guys are ready to have a good ODI Series against them."
Wanindu Hasaranga (Player of the Series): "Finally I can have a few week's break after this game, the hamstring injury is bad. I just wanted to bowl my 4 overs to cut down their total. [On attempting big hits] I couldn't run so I tried to maximize my scoring chances. I just wanted to bowl the stump line on the 5 metre line, just follow the basics."
Player of the Series: Wanindu Hasaranga (6 wickets, 25 runs)
Lockie Ferguson (Player of the Match): "Yeah, it was a full team effort to be honest. I am not quite sure whether it's the lowest total defended by us or not. Yeah I am feeling really good now. Nice to be back on the pitch and bowl well tonight. Also, credit goes to GP (Glenn Phillips) the way he bowled in the final over. Going forward he can bowl the last overs as well. Yeah, the wicket was on the slower side. The ball was gripping but we bowled really well to defend the target."
Player of the Match: Lockie Ferguson (3/7 including a hat-trick)
