That marks the end of our coverage for the 3rd T20 of the Super Smash 2024/25 between Otago Volts and Auckland Aces. Otago were ahead in the run chase but rain played spoilsport and the game got abandoned. Auckland will be on a happier side.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and our scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur. Switch the tabs to follow our coverage of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy and stay tuned for the coverage of the other matches coming up later in the day. BYE-BYE.
Max Chu (Otago Volts Captain): "Yes not the most ideal start for us. We didn't hope for the result as the rain won this time. Our bowlers did well in the start. Special mention to Hazeldine and others did well to restrict them to a low total.

We got a good start in the powerplay but the rain played the spoilsport. Anyway, we have a game on the new year's eve and we hope to do well in that."
Sean Solia (Auckland Aces Captain): "The rain again, two wash out for us to start the season. A lot to learn for us. Hazeldine put us under pressure early and we scrambled after that. Not the greatest result but I guess we can move on and look for a win.

Yeah, we have some injuries in the camp. Rain will help to keep the boys some extra rest."
11:38 AM IST & 7:08 PM Local Time: The rain had the final say yet again in a Super Smash game involving Auckland Aces. This is their second washout on the trot. However, they would be the happier side of the two as they were in trouble after getting bowled out for 106 in a game that was reduced to 17 overs per side. Otago were blazing away before the rain arrived again and put a halt to the proceedings.

Earlier in the day, Otago Volts put Auckland Aces in. Andrew Hazeldine picked up two wickets in his first over to push the Aces on the back foot.

Martin Guptill was the star of the show with a knock of 31 off 23. Skipper Sean Solia made a run-a-ball 20 while Jock McKenzie scored 16 off 15.

Danru Ferns added 10 crucial runs down the order to take the team's total past 100-run mark.

Dean Foxcroft was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 4/18 from his four overs. Hazeldine bagged two wickets, while Mason Clarke, Ruben Clinton, Ben Lockrose, and Matthew Bacon all took one apiece.

The Aces were bowled out for 106 with five balls remaining in their innings. In response, Otago faced just 11 deliveries and scored 26 runs before rain arrived, halting further play.

11:37 AM IST and 7:07 PM Local Time | The update is that the game has been abandoned!!! Rain continues to pour down and the match officials called two skippers and they are shaking the hands now.
11:35 AM IST and 7:05 PM Local Time | The on-air commentator said that the rain is falling now and it is not looking good. We are in for a more delay.
11:01 AM IST and 6:31 PM Local Time | Umpires are discussing something. The ground staff are ready with the covers outside the fence. But the drizzle is not intense. OH-HO! There was an extra fielder outside the circle in the powerplay and it is a no-ball. Simon Keene has to bowl again. WAIT!! The players are going back as the drizzle has got intense. Groundsmen are bringing the cover out and are covering the pitch.
