That's all we have for the coverage of the match between Joburg Super Kings and Durban Super Giants of SA20, 2025. Stay tuned for the cricketing action across the globe.
This is me, Aditya Agarwal signing off on behalf of Ajay Raghava and scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. BYE, CHEERS!
Keshav Maharaj (Durban Super Giants Captain): "Yeah, very much. We owe it ourselves, we owe it to our fans. Really proud of the way how everyone showed character, when you have so many losses in a row, it becomes challenging.
Yeah obviously, with any auction, there is always going to be that kind of a situation. Look, things are beyond our control but what we did today, we can held our heads high.
We wanted to do well in powerplay and we started well with the ball tonight. There were moments with the bat, we wanted to get right. It is a combination of things that are not going your way throughout the season. Today, we showed a bit more grit and character to post a decent total on the board. Kudos to the boys, for the way they bowled.
(on dropping QDK down the order) Yeah, I think with the loss of Nicky P last year, to have that left-handed in the middle was the thinking behind it and then quickly we reaslied that we are probably shooting ourselves in the foot and by the time we realised it, it was too late. Good lessons to take it forward."
Faf du Plessis (Joburg Super Kings Captain) : "Hopefully, not a Donovan Ferreira injury. I think it is one of the those games. Klassen batted really well and put us under pressure. I think Donovan and Theekshana bowled really well in the death for us and restricted them. After the rain-break, we lost the momentum and Noor bowled brilliantly as well. So we were outdone by 2 quality players today.
After the break, it's not ideal to start fresh as there was some grip on the surface. It was not easy to hit Noor on your will. I think the first 10 overs, we could have been much more attacking before the rain-break.
Tonight we were playing around with a few things. Not going with our best playing xi. It is important for us to keep fresh and give adequate rest to the players."
Noor Ahmad (POTM): "The tournament is incredible, I enjoyed a lot. We didn't have a good tournament overall but finished with a good result. We will come back stronger next year and show who we really are.
I think, just keeping it simple and getting into a rhythm, bowling wicket to wicket works for me. I think it is a pleasure to be the kind of member in the team that you are given a responsibility and you deliver for the team."
Player of the Match: Noor Ahmad
Time for the post-match presentation.
01:46 AM IST and 10:46 PM Local Time | Durban Super Giants end their SA20 League 2025 campaign on a high as they beat Joburg Super Kings in a one-sided affair and a rain-shortened contest, by a margin of 11 runs.
Here's a review of what happened in the match.
Earlier, Joburg Super Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. They got off a great start as they removed the top order of DSG in quick fashion as DSG were 39/3.
However, on the back of Heinrich Klaasen and Wiaan Mulder’s fighting knocks of 76* runs off 47 balls and 30* runs off 22 balls respectively, they posted an above par score of 173/4 on the board.
Hardus Viljoen went on the expensive side but bagged 2 wickets for the Joburg Super Kings. Lutho Sipamla bowled good line and lengths as well.
Chasing 174, JSK lost their opener Leus du Plooy early with a score of 12 on the board. Faf du Plessis and Devon Conway then played some good looking shots before the rain came in.
After the rain-break, the target was revised to 147 from 16 overs.
Noor Ahmad then bowled a brilliant double wicket maiden just after the rain-break by dismissing Faf du Plessis and Wihan Lubbe and put the home side on the back foot. JSK could not recover from the double strike as the wickets kept felling at regular intervals.
With 60 runs required in 18 balls, Donovan Ferreira played a tremendous knock of 51 runs from just 22 balls and brought the equation down to 21 required from the last over before getting out. He smashed 5 lusty blows and 2 fours.
However, the target was beyond their reach as DSG won by a margin of 11 runs (DLS Method). Noor Ahmad starred with the ball with the figures of 3 for 25 in his 4 overs.
