That is all from the action here. Time for me (Sourabh) to sign off on behalf of my co-commentators Ajay, Akshaya and scorer Raju Khariya. Cheers!
David Miller (Paarl Royals Captain): "Yeah phenomenal, another win at home. Five from five. Thank you everyone for coming out in the last couple of weeks. The local fans really do get behind us.
Yeah, I heard it is the first time, 5 in 5 at home. Really nice achievement. The guys have been phenomenal sticking to the plan and winning key moments.
(On his injury) My right groin is a bit tight, 35 now, and I still feel really fit. Just a little tweak there, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
Yeah, he (Lhuan-dre Pretorius) has been phenomenal. So good to see the youngsters coming through and showing their skill. Lucky to have him, even more so now, taking the oppositions apart.
(on giving Kwena Maphaka's inclusion) Correct, the left-armer with a lot of pace. Coming back bowling quickly and with a bit of swing as well. We expected that from him. Great to see all the guys pulling together. We have made a couple of changes throughout the season.
(On Bjorn Fortuin) Yeah, it is a phenomenal performance from him. He loves the new ball, he's skillful. He's cleaver with the ball. Highly skillful. Really nice to have him.
No, not at all. We got a lot of guys in the team who can adapt on the road. The guys have adapted well and we are really confident with where the squad is at."
Keshav Maharaj (Durban Super Giants' captain): "Probably decisions not going our way but then it is a part and parcel of the game, everyone makes mistake but incredibly proud of my boys.
Once again we lost it there in the powerplay (with the bat) but I can't really isolate where we went wrong with the ball, think we bowled well and fielded well too today. Credit to Kane and Marcus who showed their class with the bat.
I still felt we were in the game. Towards the back end when the wind is pumping, it does make it feel a bit short.
We want to play for pride, obviously no chance for qualification but we want to finish as high as we can."
Rubin Hermann (POTM): "Yeah, 100 percent. Nice to get a chance in SA20. Every local cricketer in the country works towards it. Nice to put a season together to impress the right people, happy to contribute to the team's win.
I think, we complement each other nicely. We know both are naturally aggressive cricketers. If it works for one, the other can give the strike. All of us have gelled well as squad. We got 11 on the field but all 16 of us have contributed.
You learn so much, we have David Miller and Dinesh, who has come to South Africa. You learn so much from their calm heads. They are here for a reason and they just back you."
Player of the Match: Rubin Hermann
Time for the post-match presentation.
08:55 PM Local Time, 12:25 AM IST: Pink flags are flying high on the banks at Boland Park in Paarl as the Paarl Royals have made it 5 out of 5 in their home and they finish their home games remaining unbeaten throughout the competition and in doing so they have also become the first team to win all their home games in any SA20 season. People are dancing on the grass banks as their team Paarl Royals have now won 6 matches on the streak in this season and cemented their place at the top of the table, the big fist pumps from Galiem after hitting the winning six and then the hug with Van Buuren show how much it means to the Royals as they have now almost secured a top-2 finish.
But as they say, every coin has two sides and that second side belongs to DSG today who have been officially eliminated from the season after slumping to their eighth loss in nine matches in what has been a forgettable season for the side from Durban.
It was a slow track at the Boland Park as it has been throughout the 5 matches here but still 143 from DSG at the halfway stage felt a little under par. They needed early wickets and it could not have gotten any earlier as Root fell for a golden duck on the first ball of the chase. But then, two young Protea batters, Pretorius and Hermann took matters in their own hands and stitched up a big second wicket partnership to make sure there was there were no further jitters.
Hermann got to his fifty and just when it looked like they would cruise Stoinis broke the partnership 91 and things got a bit slow in the second half of the innings as both the batters fell within a space of 2 overs. Miller was nursing an injury and did not come out to bat but then the designated finisher DK stepped up to the occasion and made a handy contribution towards the end using his experience.
He fell in the 19th over and things got a bit tighter than the Royals would have liked but they eventually got over the line with a ball to spare.
OVER 20
Paarl Royals
147/4
Dayyaan Galiem
8(6)
Mitchell Van Buuren
13(17)
Wiaan Mulder
0-22(2.2)
What drama in the final over! Mulder had 6 runs to defend. He started with a dot ball, then conceded two singles off the next two deliveries. Then came the contentious wide call by the on-field umpire. DSG reviewed it, hoping the TV umpire would reverse the decision, but it wasn’t to be. Mulder fought back with another dot ball, sending shivers into the Royals' camp. But Dayyaan Galiem remained ice-cool under pressure. With 3 runs needed off 2 balls, he smashed the penultimate delivery over the ropes to seal the win for the Royals.
