The West Cape Derby has come to an end! Paarl Royals have taken their revenge over the MI Cape Town. That’s all we have for you from this cracking fixture between Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town! Do join us tomorrow for yet another Derby all the way from Johannesburg!

For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Anirudh Modi who, along with scorer/analyst Dushyant Madhukar Kumar brought all the actions of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world! CHEERS!
David Miller (Paarl Royals Captain): "Great performance from the team. To restrict them under 160 was great, credit to the spinners and for Wellalage to come in and make an impact was great.

Mujeeb found his length really well bowling into the wind, it was great to have a match winner like him in the team. Root is our death bowler now, haha. I gave him the one over and it worked well, so I gave him more overs.

It is critical to finish off the game, and I wanted to be ready for the situation. Big game for us and we won it, thanks to the support out here, coming out in number and we love it."
Rashid Khan (MI Cape Town Captain): "Yeah I think so it was pretty close. I feel we dropped a few catches and it did not let us get back into the game. The bowlers bowled well in the middle overs but we were a few runs short.

Well I feel the way Rassie batted till the end, he did a great job but we were 10-15 runs short. Especially in the death overs, when Root was bowling, I feel we could have added few more runs. As a bowling unit, we were confident with 158 but there were few dropped catches which let us down tonight.

(On the Run Out) Yeah it was great. That is something I enjoy a lot. I try my best in order to give my 100% for the team."
Lhuan-Dre Pretorius (Player of the match): "The bat just got stuck in the crease, and it would have been nice to finish the game off. I think they are buzzing in the dressing room right now but yeah, glad to get over the line.

The conditions were a bit different, it was skidding on, in the first innings it looked slow but it was skidding on to me which helped. I'm just speaking to my coaches to gain clarity in my game and backing myself."

Time for the Post-Match Presentation!
12:22 AM IST & 8:52 PM Local Time| There it is! The Paarl Royals have triumphed over their arch-rivals in the Western Cape Derby, delivering a statement victory in front of their passionate home crowd. A commanding performance saw them secure a comprehensive 6-wicket win with an over to spare.

Earlier in the day, MI Cape Town were put in to bat first after David Miller, finally ending his streak of toss misfortune, won the toss and opted to field. The visitors adopted a cautious approach in the early stages of the innings. In a surprise move, Azmatullah Omarzai was promoted to open the batting alongside Rassie van der Dussen.

However, the experimentation didn’t pay off as Omarzai struggled to get going and was dismissed cheaply inside the powerplay. The second-wicket partnership between Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks played a crucial role in steadying the innings for MI Cape Town. The sluggish nature of the pitch seemed to trouble the new batters, who found it difficult to rotate the strike and keep the scoreboard moving.

Rassie van der Dussen showcased his class once again with a brilliant unbeaten knock of 91* off 64 deliveries. His calculated approach, combined with precise boundary hitting, allowed MI Cape Town to recover from their slow start and finish with a fighting total of 158/4 from their 20 overs. Mujeeb ur Rahman (2/27) was the pick of the bowlers for the Paarl Royals.

In reply, Lhuan-dre Pretorius made MI Cape Town rue their missed chances in the very first over. Dropped twice on back-to-back deliveries, the southpaw capitalized on those reprieves and delivered a sensational knock, turning the game in favor of the Royals.

A masterclass from Lhuan-dre Pretorius took center stage as he played a sublime knock of 83 off 52 balls. Handy contributions from Joe Root (15) and Mitchell Van Buuren (22), it was Pretorius who kept the chase firmly under control. It required a moment of brilliance to dismiss the southpaw and Rashid Khan produced that as he got a direct hit all the way from long-on and Pretorius’ innings came to an end.

David Miller (24*) showcased his class and composure in the final stages, guiding their side home with a comprehensive 6-wicket win! Stay tuned for the Post-Match Presentation.
