Faf du Plessis (Joburg Super Kings Captain): "We did not think they would rely on the spinners, it was a bit sticky and looked pretty dry when we came here. It's a spinner's track. We were thinking we needed 160 to be in the game.
There is always 1 over and suddenly you are back. The two sixes from Coetzee were crucial to cross that mark. If you ask me before the game, I would have laughed with two leg spinners bowling, but it was crucial with the wind and they picked up wickets.
Great all around performance, he has been working hard on his bowling, and it is always handy to have one of your top order batters to be able to bowl. I am very proud of our performance today, Kesh is always really good and their spinners know this ground well."
Keshav Maharaj (Durban Super Giants Captain): "Yeah definitely. I feel we bowled pretty well but we left out 15-20 runs more out there at the halfway stage of the game. Nevertheless full credit to JSK with the way they bowled. Quinny played a brilliant knocked but failed to finish it off for us. Klaasen also played well but unfortunately we lost our way in the middle phase. These things happen. Time to reassess and get back to the drawing board.
(On the two 6s in the last over of the 1st innings) Ah, it happens you know in cricket. Naveen has been a champion bowler and I am sure you all have witnessed that in the previous game. We will work on the things we can be a little better.
Yeah definitely I think, the one thing I have said before is that the character we showed in this game. If we can keep working on them then I am sure we can go one step further."
Quinton de Kock (Player of the Match): "The wicket just got harder and harder, and they bowled really well, and executed their plans really well. I have done it before but on a much flatter wicket. I had to push deeper and deeper and I could not attack the bowler I wanted to. It became impossible in the end."
Player of the Match: Quinton de Kock
Catch of the Match: Imran Tahir
Time for the Post-Match Presentation!
12:32 AM IST, 9:02 PM Local Time | Joburg Super Kings win a thriller of a contest to take the W! They do so by 28 runs against the home side in Durban Super Giants!
Joburg Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first, and it was a labored inning for them as Durban kept picking up wickets at regular intervals to stifle the run-flow. Leus du Plooy was the top scorer with 38 runs off 32 balls and it was thanks to a couple of big hits from Coetzee on the last 2 balls of the innings, that helped Joburg to register 169/7 at the end of their 20 overs.
Prenelan Subrayen was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 2/24 from his 4 overs. While, Chris Woakes and skipper Keshav Maharaj chipped in with a couple of wickets too.
Come the chase, the Durban openers had come out all guns blazing! But that did not last long when Wiese and Tahir combined to send both openers back within the first 4 overs! QDK came in at no. 4 and after losing 2 more partners in Mulder and Smith, his partnership with Heinrich Klaasen looked to be threatening.
However, Pathirana sprung to life after being hit for 18 runs in the over, to induce an edge off Klaasen's false clip to end his innings after 29 runs off 17 balls, leaving Durban reeling at 99/5 after 12 overs! QDK stood steadfast at the other end, eventually scoring 55 runs off 45 balls but it was never enough, as the wickets kept tumbling at the other end. He was the penultimate wicket to fall in the chase. Joburg dismissed Durban for 141 all-out!
Donovan Ferreira was the pick of the bowlers for JSK with the figures of 2/15 from his 4 overs!
Batting second remains a difficult task at Durban, and today the home side experienced it first-hand! Joburg Super Kings make it 2 wins from 2 games and find themselves at no. 2 in the points table! Durban Super Giants meanwhile, will take stock of today and look to get back on the winning track, next time around.
