Time to wrap up this coverage, folks! For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee and scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. CHEERS!
Andries Gous (Player of the Match): "It was a good innings for me. The pitch was slow early on and then we had to adjust and get to the score. Glad I did well and contribute to my team. Thank You."
Player of the Match: Andries Gous.
Jasdeep Singh (USA Captain): "I think 181 was a good total and they batted really well but credit to our bowlers who pulled things back. I think it's all about soaking the pressure and the boys did really well to execute the plans."
Gerhard Erasmus (Namibia Captain): "Yes, disappointed with the result. We gave away too many runs and then came back well. We started well with the bat but lost the plot towards the end. It happens. I think we have to see how things unfold and execute the plans better for tomorrow's game. Thank You."
8:56 PM IST, 17:26 Local Time: Good comeback from the USA bowlers in the second half of the innings as they curbed the scoring rate and restricted Namibia to 168/8, securing a 13-run victory.
Earlier, after deciding to bat first, Saiteja Mukkamalla and Andries Gous provided a decent start to USA, adding 41 runs for the first wicket. However, Mukkamalla failed to convert his start into a big score and departed for 17 runs. Gous continued his merry ways and stitched together valuable partnerships with Smit Patel (24) and Nitish Kumar (36) for the second and third wickets, respectively. Gous switched gears as the innings progressed and notched up his half-century. He delivered 81 runs off 50 balls and helped the USA post a hefty 181 runs in 20 overs. Jack Brassell bagged a couple of wickets for Namibia, while Gerhard Erasmus and Bernard Scholtz grabbed one wicket each. In pursuit of 181 runs, Namibia lost both their openers, JP Kotze and Jan Frylinck, cheaply, with both scoring just one run. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Gerhard Erasmus paired up in the middle, and the pair counterattacked the USA bowlers and succeeded in doing so as they added runs briskly and put the batting back on track. They added 63 runs for the third wicket, with Loftie-Eaton departing for 19-ball 34 runs. JJ Smit delivered a cameo of 25 runs off 12 balls and kept the momentum going, but Namibia lost four wickets in quick succession and were 137/6 in 15 overs. Erasmus looked in great touch and notched up his fifty but failed to seal the game for his side and departed for 77 runs in the 18th over of the game, leaving his side in a spot of bother. Unfortunately, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 168/8 in 20 overs.
Nosthush Kenjige starred with the ball for USA, grabbing three wickets. Jasdeep Singh chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Milind Kumar, Juanoy Drysdale, and Abhishek Paradkar contributed one wicket each to Namibia's downfall.
Stay tuned for the presentation....
